Visiting Teaching Handout-June 2013

This month the visiting teaching handout for June is titled “Joy in Family History”.

My husband and I both come from families that have several people that do a lot of family history and a lot of our work has been done, but we went to one of the church’s  family history centers several months ago and one of the really fun things that we did was to generate a family genealogy fan!  This is a great image that will show you all of your ancestors all in the same place.  It shows you who has been found and where there are holes in your lines.  It is really a cool way to see everything all at once!

You do not have to go to a family history center to generate your own fan, anyone can do your own online here:

This is a fun way to get started with your family history, or if you have already done some of your history, this is a great way to see what you have done and where the holes need to be filled in.  I really encourage you to try this and also to encourage your sisters that you visit to try it out.  I would love for you to share this link with them.

So this month, for the visiting teaching message, I thought that it would just be fun to do a tag that says “Scatter Sunshine through Family History”.

Here are the printables.

I  made this bright, sunny tag and I put 3 on a page, so you just need to print and cut them out!  So easy, right?

VT-2013-010-juneHere are the blank ones for those of you that would like to translate, or for anyone who wants a fun tag, you can just add you own saying or sentiment.

To print, right click over the image and go to “save image as”, then save in a folder.  You can then print your own.

This is formatted to an 8.5 x 11 page.

VT-2013-011-June-BlankThis is a fun tag and here are several different ways that I thought of to use this tag.  You can tie it to anything yellow, like a bag of lemon drops, yellow candy, a yellow candle,  tie it to a fun yellow box or bag, or simply tape it to the front of a plain white paper sack, fold over the top of the sack and punch 2 holes and tie a ribbon through it.  Add it to a bottle of water with a yellow straw and a pouch of lemonade.  I covered the label of the bottle with a piece of  yellow scrapbook paper and added a few flowers.  You could tie it to a bouquet of fresh yellow flowers, etc.  I know that you can probably think of many yellow things that you can use this tag on.  This is a fun tag that you could use for any occasion!  Let your imagination go!

I hope that we can all scatter sunshine this month to those that we visit and that we can encourage our sisters to try to do one thing this month towards their family history!

Happy Visiting Everyone!  Love Ya!

  1. I really like your visiting teaching handouts. Thanks so much for sharing your creativity! I share them with my sisters just about every month.
I have tried to add my own message to your blank cards, but can’t figure out how to do it. Maybe I have the wrong idea and I can’t actually type my own message on them and then print them? Just thought I would check with you and see if it possible.
    Again thanks so much!
    Janet
