Flag Rag Quilt

I saw a flag quilt on Pinterest  the other day and decided that I needed to make one!  So I ran and got some fabric and put this together last night!  It was really easy to make, but when I washed it to make it “rag” out, some of the fabric shrunk differently than the other and it came out a little bit crooked.  I was just going to leave it, because it is just a seasonal decoration, but my OCD got the better part of me and I had to straightened it out! :)

I did not do a tutorial on how to make this, but if you already know how to do a rag quilt and want to make one, I will give you the dimensions that I used.  The red and white strips are 4″ x 42″  You will need 14 strips of the red (because you need for the front and the back, to make 7 red stripes) you will need 12 strips of the cream to make 6 stripes.  The blue star fabric is 16″ x 18″, cut two, one for the front and one for the back.  You will also need batting to go with each section, cut  your batting 1″ smaller on all sides.  So for the stripes, you will cut it 2″ x 40″.  The batting for the blue block is 14″ x 16″. I quilted down the center of each stripe before sewing the quilt together and sewed an “X” in the blue.  I used 1″ seams to sew it together and then clipped all the seams.  Wash it to “rag” it out.  It is really better to use all cotton fabric, because it will fray better.  My fabric has polyester in it and it did not fray like I would have liked.  Oh well, it is just a decoration!

My cute little helper is holding this for me!  I love how bright and fun this quilt is.  It really makes quite a statement.

Here it is in my living room.  I will take it outside for our party on the 4th, but it looks pretty cute here on the back of my chair!

Let’s hear it  for the red, white and blue!

Do you have any favorite 4th of July or patriotic decorations?  I love Americana stuff, but I have to say that I think that it takes a very close second to Halloween decorations, which are my all time favorite!

Have a Happy July Day!  Love Ya!

    1. Thank you for your kind comment and for your support, I appreciate both. Right now I am not selling any of my quilts and I probably won’t sell them, but I will never say never! :)
