Girl Baptism Quilt

One of our granddaughter’s was baptized this last weekend.  This was a special day for her.  In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints the children are baptized when they are 8 years old.

I have made it a tradition to make a quilt for each of the grandkids for their baptism.  It has always been a minky quilt with minky fabric on the front and the back!  They are so warm and cuddly!  I also have their name and the year and “choose the right” embroidered in one of the corners.

McKinly is all girl and her favorite color is pink, so I knew that I would have to choose a quilt that had a lot of pink in it and this quilt reminds me of her!  I hope that when she wraps up in this quilt that she will know how much she is loved by her grandparents, her family and those around her!

(I took these pictures on my back deck and now there are 6 inches of snow out there!  It is amazing how much the weather can change in the course of 24 hours!)

Here is the back of the quilt.  Full minky!  This is a fun quilt to make, because it is just squares and you can mix and match all the different colors that you want to.  When working with minky, you just have to remember to pin, pin, and pin some more before you start sewing!  I also quilted this quilt and I quilted in some flowers and hearts, but some of this minky is so fluffy that the quilting did not show up very good, but that is okay, because it showed up in the shorter nap squares.  The back of this quilt is very, very soft!

This is my cute little McKinly.  She is a sweet, kind girl and she is a great sister!  She is grandma’s helper and loves to help me decorate and plan parties for all the holidays!

McKinly has an uncle that loves to tease…he wrapped her up and tied a knot in the back of her quilt, so she was like a little cocoon.  She wasn’t quite sure what he was up to, but when he just turned and walked away this is the face that she made at him!  :(

So this is her girl baptism quilt.

I thought this would be the last quilt that I would make before Christmas…but I have a couple more in mind!  We’ll have to see how well I do under pressure! :)  I seem to get more done with a deadline!  Is anyone else like that?

How are all of your holiday plans coming along?

Have a great Monday everyone!  Love Ya!

  1. Hi Rita, Darling baptism quilt. My granddaughter is getting baptized July 1st. I do not sew. I have been looking everywhere for something, and not having much luck. Do you by chance make them for others? If not, maybe you could point me in the direction I need to go.
    Thank you.

    1. Heid, I am sorry, but I do not make them to sell. You could check at your local quilt shops to see if they have someone that does sewing for others. Or you could check Etsy to see if there are any quilts for sell. Hope this helps.
