Cabin Fire

Our cabin was in the middle of a large wildfire about 10 days ago and I am so happy to announce that we were so fortunate to survive the fire with only some landscape damage and minimal damage to the inside of the cabin!  After going up there and seeing how close the fire really was…it was very humbling!  The Summit County firefighters were amazing!  As we looked around we would see cabins that were burned on 3 or all 4 sides, but the cabins themselves were saved!  So I have to say a great big THANK YOU to all those firefighters and the many others that were involved in this huge undertaking.

This collage shows how widespread and yet how close the fire came.

“Lucky” the Deer

My husband and I spend a lot of time at our cabin up in the mountains.  We love to enjoy the peace and quiet and the beautiful scenery all around us.  We usually have a few deer that come to visit us while we are there.  Of course, it might help that we throw apples out to them on the lawn!  They sometimes will come running, literally,  when they hear the cabin door open and close!

We have had several does and 3 sets of twin fawns  this summer, that live right by the cabin,  and they come to visit every time we are there!    It has been so fun to watch as the fawns have lost their spots and gotten weaned from their mothers and become a little bit independent throughout the last few months.   Well, last weekend while we were there we also had a couple more bucks come to visit.  They are in 7th heaven with all the does around.  (Sorry!)

It is quite a little haven for the deer, as they cannot be hunted on our side of the mountain.  My husband was looking out the window and told me to come look at this deer that was out on the front lawn.

Hobble Creek Barn Boutique!

My friend, Sue and I went to the Hobble Creek Barn Boutique in Mapleton.  It was great to spend most of a day with a good friend!  I have not been to this boutique in many years and it was a fun liitle place with some things that I had never seen before.  We got several ideas for new projects as well as some great purchases. We went to several other stores and to lunch, it was totally a friend’s day out together and it was great to get away.

I love the metal and vintage things that they had outside on the sidewalk before you even go into the building!

We saw pumpkins, snowmen, americana flags, bird houses, framed mirrors, all kinds of jewelry, clothes, and  of course yummy treats.  They had a little bit of everything! This was one of my purchases of the day.  Does anyone know what I will do with it?  Stay tuned for a project that is yet to come!

Swiss Days

This week end I went to Swiss Days in Midway.  For a girl who is usually in a hurry and does not like to wait in line, this is a crazy place to be.  But I always love it and love to look at the different vendors and the booths they create!  My hubby took me up and dropped me off at the curb.  What a sweetheart!

After all the fun we went to lunch at Don Pedro’s in Heber.  They have the BEST bean dip!

This is one of my purchases at Swiss days.  I love to do puzzles and hope that it will help with my alzhiemers prevention :) This is my most favorite purchase of the day however!  A Hammock for at the cabin!  It is so relaxing and I love it!

This poor little doe looks pretty shabby this time of year, with both coats showing.  She kept coming to see us while we there.  We think that she has twin fawns, but we did not see the fawns this time.

 Ahh! The good life!

(I am not mad in this picture, I just have a hard time smiling with my braces on my teeth!)What did you do this Labor Day weekend?  Leave me a comment and let me know.

Blog Header

I have been scrapbooking for 30+ years and I used to own a scrapbook store called Forget Me Not.  I love to craft with paper.  But I am very new to digital scrapbooking.  I just discovered a great digital program called Scrapbook Max and it is very user friendly and pretty easy to get started.  There is a blog called My Computer is My Canvas and they have some wonderful tutorials. One of the tutorials is how to create your own blog topper.  I was able to follow it and make my cute header!  There are two other sites that I really like for my images.  Just So Scrappy and Scraporchard, they both have really cute images and alphabets.  If you are interested in digital scrapbooking or making your own cards, flyers, handouts etc. check these sites out they will make you smile.

Hello Friends

This is my first post on my new blog!  I am so excited to get started, but boy do I have a ton to learn!  I am a mother of four, grandmother of 9, and married to my best friend!  Grandma’s score is boys-6…girls-3.  And these are my darling 3 granddaughters!  I look forward to starting this new journey and to tell our story.
