Painted “hello” board

I made a fun little board the other day to put out on my porch.  I am loving the fun yellow and gray colors!  It brings just a little bit of sunshine during these winter months!  "hello" welcome boardThis was super easy to make.  I bought this board at The Wood Connection and all I  had to do to make this is, paint 1-2 coats of the gray paint.  I did not have exactly the right color of gray so I actually ended up mixing this color.  It was a platinum color with black mixed in to darken it a bit.  Then when it was dry.  (Make sure your bottom coat is very dry before applying the vinyl.) I applied the word “hello” cut out of vinyl.  I just made this on my Silhouette machine. The font is called  “CAC Champange.”  I altered the font a little bit so that all the letters were connected.  The size of the vinyl is 6 inches high  by 11 inches wide.   After I applied the vinyl and rubbed all of the edges down really good, then I painted the yellow color on top of everything.  The yellow color that I used is called “Hay”, the brand name of the acrylic paint is Anita’s.

After the yellow paint dried, I sanded all of the front and the edges quite a bit to get a good distressed look.  When you have it about the way you want it, remove the vinyl lettering and then sand a little more over the entire board.  Spray or paint a varnish on it to protect the wood. hello close upI stapled a ribbon on the back of the board so that I could hang it on my stand, but you could also just hang it on your wall or even put it on an easel!  Both ways would be cute.hello welcome boardDo you need a fun, easy project to ease the winter blues?  This one will definitely fit the bill! Another fun slat board project is this drink coco cola boardDSC_0233
