Yard Sale Chairs for the Cabin

A week ago my husband and I were coming back from our property in Upton, Utah and I saw a “Home Goods Sale” sign.  We were after the hours listed on this sale, but there was no date, so we decided to check it out and see if we could possibly come back the next day!  Well, the sweet lady that was holding the sale came out when we pulled in the driveway and she just opened up her sale to us!  Happy Day!  :)

I found 3 chairs, 2 wall lamps for the cabin, and a wonderful metal tub to plant flowers in!  My son came up the next morning and he got a beautiful game table, a lamp, a wall light and a gorgeous metal bowl.

These are the chairs that I found:Yard Sale ChairsI knew that I wanted them black because I did a table for the cabin last fall and it has black legs, so I wanted them to match!

I was working on these chairs at home.  I re-glued some of the legs and spindles that were loose then I had them all sanded and 3 coats of paint on them and all I needed to do to finish them was to distress the edges and paint the varnish on, so I figured that I would get them done easily before the weekend…but that was before the migraine headache settled in!  I was so sick and it made me sick to my stomach, that all I did for a day and half was barely function!  My husband said that we did not need to go to the cabin, but in insisted that I could be sick up there as well as I could at home.  By the time we got up there, my headaches were calmed down considerably, so I decided that I would finish these chairs outside at the cabin.  I was sanding away and I looked up to see that I had some beautiful visitors…who were wondering what in the world I was doing!cabin deerIt was so fun to see them.  There were mamas and babies, small bucks and one poor little soul with a hurt hoof!  But they were my painting buddies…at least for a little while!wooden chair-redoHere is a close-up of the beautiful design in the back of these chairs!  I love all the detail work and spindles…even if they were nasty to get in all the little grooves when painting.cabin chairs-redoHere are the finished chairs with my table that I did!  Don’t they look beautiful together!  I love to re-do old furniture and it always makes me happy to make something that is old and unused into something beautiful again!  I have needed more chairs at the cabin and these two are a great start!wooden chair-redoI had thought about doing these chairs in a bright fun color, but in the end, decided that the black would look the best with the table, and I am glad that I did, because they look like they were made to go together!

I have one more chair that has an upholstered seat that I need to do, so maybe I can do that a fun color and put it somewhere else, either in the cabin or I am thinking for a sewing chair in my sewing room!  Do any of you have any fun furniture projects that you have done?  I have only been doing these projects for a few years, but I have discovered that it is something that I love to do!

Thanks for visiting today…Have a Happy Monday!

  2. Rita, thank you so much for sharing your time and your remarkable talent with me. I look forward to seeing your posts and ‘feeling’ of your energy, you are wonderful!

Just a word about the migraines, have you tried a prescription medication pill called Sumatriptian? I call it my miracle pill as it truly is amazing and you only only need to take one when the headache starts to become a migraine. ( I am from the beautiful west coast of Canada so not sure what name the drug is sold under in the States)

    Best wishes to you,
    Gina

    1. Regina, Thank you so much for that information. I am going to look into that prescription. I take an over the counter med that works pretty good, but sometimes it takes me two days! :( Thanks again for taking the time to write your comment, I really appreciate it!
      Have a great day!

  3. Love the chairs with the table. A matched set! Migraines, as mentioned above, Sumatriptan is prescribed under the name “Imitrex.” I swear by it. Pricey but WORKS! Usually one pill at the onset is all that’s needed. I love the nasal spray version. One inhalation and it never becomes a real migraine.
