DIY Magnet Board Chore Chart

My daughter asked me if I would make a  DIY Magnet Board Chore Chart for her.  She had what she wanted it to look like and how to make it…so I was just in charge of putting it all together!  :)chore chartWe just got a dry erase magnet board and I added the vinyl lettering across the top of the board along with a couple of scrolls.  Then I added her kids name down the side.  I made some tags with the chore on the bottom and then she will add money behind each tag according to the job.  There are extra chore tags and I made a few blank ones too.chore chartThe child will get the cash after mom has approved the job!  There is one chore for each weekday.  My daughter gave me the list of chores that she wanted done, there are more than five tags for each child, so they will rotate the jobs around.chore chartI made an extra clothespin to hold the extra job tags and they go on the bottom of the  DIY Magnet Board Chore Chart.   I simply covered clothespins with some fun scrapbook paper.  I Mod Podged them on to the clothespins and add 2 more coats of Mod Podge on top of the paper for extra protection.  Hot glue magnets to the back of the clothespins.chore chart

I made a page of blank chore tags for those of you that would like to make your own Magnet Board Chore Chart.  Simply click on this link to print your own:

You can just write your chores on the bottom of each tag to make them personal to your own family!  I printed my tags on photo paper so they are a little bit sturdier and I did not have to laminate them.  You could print yours on cardstock weight paper and if you want to laminate to make them more protected you could do that.chore chartI made this to match the decor in my daughter’s house.  You can personalize yours by the colors you choose to cover the clothespins.  If you do not have a vinyl cutter, you could always just write on the dry erase board!

Depending on the ages of your children, you might want to make a master sheet of exactly what you expect done with each chore.  That way the child knows what is expected and you don’t have to explain it every time they do a chore.

I think that chores are very important for children.  They learn responsibility, the value of earning money  and being a part of a family where everyone has to do their part!

Do you have any ideas that have worked for you in getting your children to do their chores?  I would love to hear about them!
