Posies on Parade Quilt-WIP

I am doing another block of the month quilt this year from Just Sew, in Highland, Utah.  This year the quilt is called Posies on Parade.  I tried to find the pattern online but could not find it.  I do not even know who the pattern is made by.  If anyone knows, I would love to find out, so I can give it to you.  But this is my “Work in Progress” so far:Posies on Parade-WIPThese are all of the blocks that I have done so far.  I love the colors in this quilt and all the fun, new techniques that I am learning.  Some of these blocks I have made before and some of them are new to me.  I love learning how to put the different blocks together and trying to keep everything squared up and to the right dimensions.  I am a little bit weird that way! :)pretty petalsThese blocks are called “Pretty Petals”.  They are appliqued on the white blocks.  I kind of enjoy this technique, even though it is a little bit time consuming.  I like doing the hand stitching because it is a project that I can take with me when I am on the go!Flying geeseThese strips are called “Flying Geese”  I have used these blocks in many different quilts.  They make a great border and they are really pretty simple to make.  I made a vest many years ago, that had different quilt blocks in it and the whole bottom of the vest was a border of flying geese.  Yes, I actually wore something like that back in the 80’s!  :) I wonder whatever happened to that vest???  (My daughter probably threw it out when I was not looking!)Charm basketsThese blocks are called “Charm Baskets” and I love all the fun colors in these different blocks.  These were actually a little bit harder to get squared up because of all the little  pieces that you have to put together.  I unpicked a few times in making these, but I think that they are darling now that they are done.Star FlowerThese blocks are called “Star Flowers”  as you can see, that is just what they are!  Again, I am loving all of the colors that they have picked to make this fun quilt!Posies All In a RowThis row  is called “Posies All In a Row”.  I have story about these blocks.  I had decided that I could probably start sewing again after my accident, but when I went to cut these blocks out, I could not push down hard enough with my rotary cutter, because it hurt my arm too much.  I thought about asking my neighbor, who is a fantastic quilter, if she would cut the pieces out for me, but I found out that they were leaving for a family reunion in California so that would not work…then I asked my dear, sweet husband if he would consider doing this for me!  I told him that it would only take about half an hour, so he reluctantly agreed, even though he said it was a test of his masculinity and that I could not tell anyone that he did this!  (So don’t tell anyone, okay? wink, wink)  I sat right by him and told him all the measurements that I needed cut and he cut them.  It took a while longer than the half an hour that I told him, but he did it and he did a great job and I was happy, because now I could sew!

I love doing these blocks every month.  Sometimes I am doing them the day before you have to turn them in to get the next months blocks, but at least it makes me get them done!  Do any of you have a fun project that you work on a little bit at a time?  I love these blocks because all of the work is done in picking the colors and the fabric for each month and all I have to do is cut it out and sew it!  They even have the borders and the background all picked out for me!  I love it when I don’t have to think too much!  :)

Thanks for visiting today!  Hope you have a great day!
