February Visiting Teaching-Guardians of the Hearth

The message this month is another great one.  I feel like I say that every month but this one is so important to us today.  The family is on attack so much by the world that it is sometimes hard to remember how important our role as mothers are.  I love the quote by President Hinckley where it says: ” No other work reaches so close to divinity as does the nurturing of the sons and daughters of God.”  This is so true yet we forget it so often!  We sometimes say that we are just a mom, and yet as a woman that is one of the most divine callings that we can have!  I love how Sister Barbara Thompson also states that you do not have to be a mom to nurture others, you have a responsibility to nurture all those in your family and even if you were the only living member of your family, you are still a member of God’s family.

For the handout this month I concentrated on the quote from Pres. Hinckley:Here is an idea that I did to go with this tag:Come back tomorrow and I will show you how to make Chocolate Dipped Oreo Flowers!

Jan 2012 VT Message

The message for this month is titled “Watchcare and Ministering through Visitiing Teaching”  I love the quote by President Monson about, how small acts of service are all that are required to lift and bless some one else.  We do not have to do big, grand things, but it is our small acts that bless others!

So this is the quote that I used for this months handout:

To print, just right click on the image, go to copy, then open your favorite program like word or presentations, right click again and go to paste.  Then you can print it the way it is or you can re-size it to whatever size you want,

Because it is winter time here in Utah, (even though we have had very little snow this year!)  I decided to tie this message to a snowman cupcake!

I love this idea, that I found on pinterest on how to package a cupcake in a clear 9 oz cup, then put into a clear bag and tie with a ribbon!  How cute is that?  You could also tie a plastic spoon to the package if you wanted to.

This idea is also a cute thank you idea…Thank you “snow” much!

Come back tomorrow for a super idea on how to frost your cupcakes with no mess!  I’m serious!  I tried it today and it works like a charm.  So stayed tuned…

Ruffled Tree Skirt

One down and two more parties to go this week!  Last night we had a really fun party that has become a tradition in our ward (congregation).  The ladies get together for a progressive dinner.  We have been doing it for about 6 years.  I live in a cul-de-sac and so for the last couple of years we have done it all in our cul-de-sac, because then we can just walk from home to home.  It is so fun.  Everyone started at my house for the appetizers, then we walked across the road for a wonderful meal and then back across the street, to my friend, Susan’s,  for the best part of all…desserts!  It was a really fun evening and we had about 50 people there!

So needless to say, I was cleaning my house all day and getting the final touches on my decorating, before the party started.  One of the projects that I did was this cute ruffled tree skirt.  It was so fun and I completed it in a couple of hours!  It has NO SEWING, can you believe it!  It is all hot glued!  (I know me and the glue gun sometimes don’t get along, but I did not burn myself once this time!)

This little tree is in my bedroom and it goes perfectly with a bedspread that I made.

I am so tickled with this tree skirt and I love all the ruffles!  (Imagine that!)  If you would like to try to make one of these go to Studio 5 for a great tutorial.  I used a small piece of dowel to stick my ruffles down with and that is why I did not get any hot glue burns, in the video, she uses some kind of a glove, that would work too, but I like the dowel, because then my hands were more free.

I will show you a couple of more projects that I did tomorrow, but for now it is off to do some shopping and to get ready for the next two parties! (But at least now my house is clean!)

November Visiting Teaching Conference Bookmark

This month for visiting teaching you will pick a talk from the conference Ensign, so for the handout, I decided to do a bookmark.

You can use it two ways.  It has a paper clip at the top so you can clip it to the page you want to save, or if you are cross referencing or studying two different talks, you can take the paper clip off and use it on another page, like this…

I cut a slit in the top of the bookmark to insert the paper clip.  Tie a couple of ribbons on the paper clip to make it a little cuter :) I think that ribbon makes everything cuter!  Some day I will show you my ribbon stash!

I had Alphagraphics print my bookmarks on a heavy, glossy cardstock and it cost me 69 cents!  I have put 4 book marks on one 81/2 x 11 sheet, so there should be enough for you to have one too!

To print, just right click and go to copy, then open your favorite program, like Word, then right click again and go to paste.  Or you can send it to your favorite copy center like I did.

Here is the free printable for you to use:

Happy Thanksgiving to you!

We hope your family like ours, continues to have more to be thankful for each year!

Oct. VT Message

I thought that the message this month was so good, that I wanted to incorporate the whole thing into this month’s handout.  I came up with this cute library pocket holding 3 tags with the message, “If We Do Not Doubt”.  It is tradition in our house to make chocolate, carmel apples to take for a treat in Oct.  I will be doing that again this year, but I will post the how-to on the apples later!  So just imagine that this is given with an apple tied up with a cute ribbon! You need to cut out the library pocket, the 3 tags and the front panel.  Fold the library pocket and the flaps. Do not worry about the line across the front of the card, it will be covered up with the front panel.Fold the flaps to the back of the pocket. And glue or use double sided tape to hold the flaps down.Next, glue or tape the front panel on.Punch a hole in the top of the three tags and tie together with some cute ribbon. And there you have it!  Like I said, I will give this with a carmel apple, but you could also just insert a candy bar into the pocket! Here are the printables for this month.  Just right click on your mouse and either copy and paste into your favorite program, or just click print picture.  The two printable pages are in 81/2 x 11 format.

Happy Visiting!
