Today I have a fun idea to help kids with their reading and writing…it is these Kid’s Mailboxes & Writing Station!
I tend a couple of my grandkids on a regular basis while my daughter works, and a few weeks ago my granddaughter told me that she wanted to make a mailbox, but not for Valentines day. She wanted them to be for everyday.
We went down to a local party store and found some cute cardboard mailboxes. We brought them home and painted them up!
The kids had fun painting them and putting vinyl decals on them! I love the colors that they both chose! They all picked the decals that they wanted and we put their names on each of them. I have another granddaughter that comes once a week, so she made a box for her too. We could not find another mailbox, but she had a great time painting and decorating her own box so she can write notes too! Here is the other side. I simply covered a soup can with paper and filled it up with fun pens, pencils, colored pencils, scissors and a fun pinwheel pencil that one of the kids made! The mailboxes go on a shelf in my office, so they can check it whenever they come to my house. The basket is filled with sticky note pads, a glue stick, all kinds of note cards and I have added stickers to the collection since I took this picture! Now they are all set to write notes to each other. I love that this helps not only with their writing and reading skills, but with communication and expressing themselves! So this is my Kid’s Mailboxes & Writing Station, I think that they will enjoy it for many days to come!
I am going to be tending a couple of these kids for several days at a time and my daughter has already informed me that they are expecting a note everyday telling them what fun things that we are going to do that day! :) I guess the pressure is on! They have already made a list of all the things that they want to do while staying at grandma and grandpa’s house and we are looking forward to the fun!
Do you have something fun that you do with your kids or grandkids that helps them learn? I would love to hear some of your ideas!
Thanks for Visiting Today!

These are so cute! I always wanted a mailbox (or inbox, once I learned what that was!) as a kid. The joy of “getting mail” is an amazing thing – and it still is so many years later! :D A fantastic way to share that with your grandkids, as well as for them to have amongst themselves! :D
Jessica, Thank you for your kind comment. I love to get mail too! I loved the movie “You’ve Got Mail” even though it was e-mails. It is always fun to get mail and it is also fun to write mail to your loved ones! Hope you have a great day. Rita
