Today I have a fun little idea…a Knitted Dishcloths Gift Basket.
When we were in St. George a couple of weeks ago, I started knitting a few more dishcloths. These are wonderful to use because they are 100% cotton yarn, so they are super absorbent!
After awhile all of my dishcloths and dishtowels get a little dingy. So I decided it was time for a spring refresh!
Don’t you love these bright springy colors? Then I went to Harmon’s grocery store and found these darling dishtowels and some chocolate to make a fun little gift basket.
This picture was taken before I wrapped it up in cellophane and tied a couple of bows on it! I wanted you to see what was in the gift basket.
All of my family love these dishcloths. They are fast and easy to make.
Here is a picture of the “recipe” that I have to make these little knitted dishcloths:I am not sure why I wrote the pattern on a recipe card, but I have saved it for all of these years.
You can see most of the pattern from that picture, but here are the full directions:
Cotton Yarn-I use Sugar and Cream or Peaches and Cream
Size 9 or 10 needles
Cast on 4 stitches
Knit 3 rows
Row 4- knit 2, YO (yarn over) knit 2
Row 5- Knit 3, YO, knit to end of row
Repeat row 5 until you have 45 stitches.
(this makes a nice sized dish cloth)
To decrease- knit 2, knit 2 together, YO, knit 2 together, knit to end of row.
Repeat until 6 stitches remain.
Knit 2, knit 2 together, knit 2
Knit 2, knit 2 together, knit 1
Cast off.
Use a crochet hook to weave the ends in and you are done!
Enjoy!
The “Yarn Over” makes the cute border with the holes! You can use any cotton yarn, but this is the kind that I always use…just because it is easy to find! This is carried at most craft stores, or Walmart.
Check out some knitted dishcloths that I have made here.
So this is my Knitted Dishcloths Gift Basket. Of course you could add anything to the gift basket to personalize your gift! These baskets would be great for Mother’s Day! But they are also fun for birthdays, showers, housewarming or just because!
I love knitted dish cloths an that is the first pattern I learned. Beautiful!
Pam, I have been making these for a long time too. But they never get old! Thanks for your kind comment. Hope you have a wonderful day!
How about a dishcloth to crochet for a non-knitters.
Sandra, I do not have a pattern, but I will see if I can find a good one! Thanks for your comment. Hope you have a great day!
I hope you find a crochet one also. Some of us do not knit but would love to do some crochet ones. Thanks for all you posts and tips.
Judy, I have been looking. I will try a couple out and see what I find. Hopefully I can find one that I like as well as the knitted ones! Hope you have a great day!
I’m just learning to knit thanks to You Tube, and those cloths will be good practice. They will make great gifts. Learning to knit is fun. I wonder, do you know how many dish cloths you can get out of a skein of Peaches and Cream yarn? Thanks for sharing. I really enjoy your blog.
Donna, Thank you for taking the time to write your kind comment. You can only get one dishcloth out of one skein of Peaches and Cream. You will have some left over, but not enough for another dishcloth. I have taken all of the left overs and made a mismatched dishcloth! They are cute too!
I love your gift basket idea I knit these all the time just made 12.
