Timpanogos Caves

One of the things on our summer bucket list was to go hiking up to the Timpanogos Caves in American Fork Canyon…and Monday was a pretty cool day temperature wise, so we decided that it would be the perfect time to go!Timpanogos cavesThis is a 1.5 mile hike, but it is straight up!!  At least that is the way it felt when I was hiking it!:)  I was trying to keep up with these young punks and was failing miserably.  But they were pretty patient with me and didn’t mind waiting.  We had to wait for about an hour before we could even start up the mountain, so these cute girls decided that it would be fun to make a scavenger hunt for things to look for along the trail!hiking to timpanogos cavesThey had a fun time finding, bugs, plants, animals and rock formations all along the trail.  They were all such good sports and had a great time on this hike!valley viewOne of their favorite views was the one of the valley below!  We could see clear across the valley to the mountains on the other side!  It was pretty incredible!Timpanogos cavesWe made it up to the caves in a little over an hour, so that was pretty good time, especially with an old grandma holding them back!Timpanogos CavesOnce inside the caves, the oohs and aahs began!  It is pretty incredible to see all of the rock formations and to learn some of the information about how they are formed!  The kids loved learning about all the formations and our tour guide was funny, so that made it even better!Timpanogos Caves-001These formations are absolutely beautiful and all of these pictures were
taken with my cell phone, so I was pretty pleased with how well they turned out, especially inside the caves! There are a total of three caves that we went through and it was a super fun day as well as being educational…but don’t tell the kids that!valley viewWe had a super fun day at Timpanogos Caves and this was voted as the best view outside of the caves!  They just loved looking into the valley to see if they could spot any landmarks that they recognized!

It was an exhausting but very satisfying day!  And I did have to smile when I heard the the kids were stiff and sore the next day…at least I wasn’t the only one!  :)

Do you have things still left to do on your summer bucket list?  We have a couple more to go, but we have been doing pretty good!  If you are looking for something fun to add to your bucket list, you might just want to add this hike to your list!

  1. Oh, Rita, what a fun activity for you and your grandchildren. I hikes up to the cave several years ago with my cousin from Texas. He thought it wouldn’t take too long because at the time we were both in pretty good shape. He neglected to take into consideration the altitude! We barely made it in time for our tour. It took us about an hour as well. It is a hike well worth taking. We had so much fun. Yes, we were sore the next day, too! Fun times!

    1. Debbie, Thanks for taking the time to write your comment. I loved hearing about your trip to the caves and I am glad that I was not the only sore one the next day! :) It is a great trip and we did have a fun time. Hope you have a great day.

  2. How wonderful! Im coming over in March..from England so I hope to catch up with some sites…don’t think I will make it up there tho lol

    1. Barney, I hope that you have a wonderful trip when you come over in March. There might still be too much snow to hike to the caves at that time anyway, but there are lots of other fun things to do in Utah! I hope you enjoy Utah and that you have a great trip!
