I just went to a Handi Quilter Retreat for my long arm quilting machine and it was unbelievable! I learned so much that I still feel like I am digesting some of the information. I had a great time, made new friends and learned a ton!
The 2 day retreat was held at the Handi Quilter facility in North Salt Lake. This is the warehouse, classrooms, offices and showroom. These were the wonderful instructors. They were so fun and had so much information and they are all great teachers! They would teach for a little while and then we would go to the machines and practice! They were very patient with all the questions and problems and I think that they have way too much fun at work! :)This was my quilting partner. We had to pair up by height and I was so glad that I got to work with her. Most all of the attendees were from Utah this time because this class was sponsored by Daines Cotton Shops, in Utah. So it was fun to meet new friends from our area. We had a good time together and she helped me way more than I helped her…so thank you Annette! This was another friend I met, Connie. We had a great time getting to know each other at lunch and I felt like she was an instant friend. Do you ever feel that way when you meet someone new? This is a sample that the instructors showed us of all the different stitches we could do…if we practice for a long…long…time! :) But I love that I learned how to do them and that I have the ability to do them. I just need to practice a lot more!
Here is one more sample. I don’t really know if I will ever get this good, but I have not put the time in like they have with learning and practicing, so I will be content with my quilting because it makes ME happy. Here is a small sample of what Annette and I did and I think that it looks pretty good! We had a piece of fabric (it is the piece that you can see a little bit of) that has quilt blocks printed on it and it was fun to see how many different ways you can quilt one block! We had lots of fun testing our creativity! I learned how to use rulers and templates and I was amazed that I could sew a straight line with a ruler! (Duh!) Even the experts use rulers.
I was so glad that I was able to attend this Handi Quilter Retreat. It was so much fun, I learned so much and I made new friends…what a great way to spend 2 full days!
There was one drawback though…I came home after the first day and informed my husband that I might want a new machine! :) I am doing an upgrade on my quilting table, but might still want to upgrade my machine. We’ll see what happens.
Thanks Handi Quilter for the fun retreat and for all the information and hands on experience that we all recieved!
I guess you know what I am going to be doing now…practice, practice and more practice! They said that the humane society would take all of our practice pieces for the animals, so they won’t even go to waste! Do you have something that you are learning and need to practice a bit more? Well lets work on them together!
Thanks for visiting today, Happy Monday!
How is everyone doing on their 40 day conference reading? It has been great for me to get going and get back into my reading routine!
Wow, that looks amazing. Good job my friend.
Kathy, thanks! I am excited to start practicing! Hopefully I can do it on my machine!
