Today I have my second Americana project…It is this “Sweet Land of Liberty” quilt from Kimberbell Designs!Doesn’t this quilt just make your patriotic heart beat a little faster?? This is combination of applique, piecing, and hand stitching on the blocks. This was a fun quilt to make, even with all of the details. But that is what makes it cute is all of the little extras!
I followed this pattern with the exception of the colors, I did dark red, tan and navy rather than the traditional red white and blue. This pattern also had quite a bit of light blue, but I switched out most of that with other colors. Here are the close-ups of some of the blocks. The “Sweet Land of Liberty” was quite tedious to machine applique around all of those letters. But, now that it is done, I love it, but during the process, I was not loving it so much! :)This was a fun block with the ruffled watermelon rind and the yo-yo cherry for the cupcake! We all know there is nothing more American than apple pie!The yo-yo cherries with the ric-rac stem were a whimsical touch and the hexagon flower added a very fun technique! The pieced flag with the star was a simple pieced quilt block and then the cake with the ruffled frosting and pinwheel toppers finishes off this very “Sweet Land of Liberty” quilt!I was going to use this for a table quilt, but decided to hang it from my railing in my front foyer…where it can welcome everyone who comes to the front door!
Have you put out your patriotic decor? I love to decorate with some patriotic items for the whole summer! I have included in inside my home, but I have also added some of it to my potted plants outside!
Rita,
I love all your quilts. My wish is to become your new favorite charity! This is gorgeous!
Rita, you are so sweet to share all your wonderful ideas. Your website is sooooo inspirational and family oriented. I absolutely love your “Sweet Land of Liberty” quilt. Have you ever thought about teaching classes on sewing, quilting, restoring old furniture, or cooking — or having your own TV show? I realize time probably wouldn’t permit that so I’m very grateful for your website and tutorials.
Connie, you are so very sweet, but you hit the nail on the head when you said that time probably won’t permit! I love to share my ideas…so I guess that I will just keep blogging!
Hope you have a great day,
Rita
Love the “Sweet Land of Liberty” quilt. What is the level of difficulty? I would love to make one for my daughter. She just graduated with her Doctorate and is headed to Commissioned Officer Training, where she will be a Captain in the Air Force. I ordered the Halloween pillow pattern that we made last year and it was a huge hit. I gave 5 as gifts. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Vicki, the level of difficulty is that some of it is tedious…as in sewing around all of the letters. It is a small table quilt or wall hanging quilt, but you could add lots of borders to make it a bigger quilt. It is a fun pattern, but it does take a bit of time to do. Hope this helps.
Rita
