I promised you yesterday that I would show you how to make the Chocolate Oreo Cookie Flowers. They are so fun and easy and there are just a couple of tips to help you so the cookie part does not break quite so much.
So who is ready to make Chocolate covered Oreo Cookie Flowers?
The first thing that you need to do is separate the cookie. I put a sharp knife down one side to help prevent the cookie part from breaking. (I still had some of them break in half and that is OK because the chocolate will hold it together later.) This next step is essential in helping to prevent the cookie from breaking. If you try to just push the stick into the filling it will break almost every time! Take your sharp knife and cut two lines down and then lift out the middle like this:Next insert a wooden skewer or a long lollipop stick. You will need to melt your chocolate. I used the “a’peels” from Gygi’s, but you can also use the Wilton Candy Melts. Put into a small deep container. I used a glass 2 cup measuring cup. Melt the chocolate in the microwave for one minute on 50 percent power. Take out and stir, put back in microwave for 30 seconds at 50 percent power and stir. Repeat until chocolate is almost all melted, just stir to continue melting the chocolate. You do not want the chocolate to get hot because it burns very easily. It is better to melt it slowly.
Add a small amount on top of the skewer:Then put the top on the cookie. This is where the chocolate can hold the cookie together if it happened to break! Let this sit for a few minutes for the chocolate to harden. You can do the rest of the cookies while you are waiting.Next, just dip the cookie into the chocolate all the way to the stick. Then tap it on the side of the dish to get the excess chocolate off.Lay out on a piece of parchment paper and put sprinkles on the top.I then repeated the process with the milk chocolate, and I added cherry JuJu hearts.
JuJu hearts are one of my biggest weakness in candies. I bought 2 bags awhile back and had to hide them in my office so that I would not eat them. If the package was not opened I was OK, but now that the package is open I am in big trouble! So what did I do? I decided to cover some of them in chocolate! If plain is good then covered in chocolate is better, right? I am the devil herself!I also just covered the rest of the Oreos without sticks in them. I wanted to use up all of the chocolate that was left! :) Just drop one into the dish of chocolate and stir around to cover it, lift it out with a fork and tap on the side of the dish to remove the excess chocolate. These are pretty cute too! You could put these in some fun containers to give away. They would work great in the Chinese Take Out Boxes.I took the flower cookies and simply put a cellophane bag over the top of the cookies and tied it with a big bow. Pretty simple. These would make great gifts for teachers, friends, kids, family etc. They are so easy to make and you can change up the sprinkles and toppers and use for any holiday!
These are soooo cute. I love the white ones with sprinkles the best! And I love the idea of putting them in the Chinese takeout containers. Would be delighted for you to link up with us at Mop It Up Mondays: http://www.ishouldbemoppingthefloor.com/2012/02/mop-it-up-mondays-party-2.html
