Today’s post should be titled “Rita’s Ramblings” because I am going to ramble about a trip that my husband and just took! :)We took two of our grandsons to a basketball tournament in Las Vegas and BOY…WAS IT HOT! Luckily for us, all the games were inside an air conditioned building! We drove down and here is a pic of car dashboard: At one point it got up to 106 degrees! I thought that we were all going to melt every time we stepped outside. The boys spent a lot of their free time out in the hotel pool, so they didn’t seem to mind too much. We had ballgames every day and one day there were 2 games…so we were busy they whole time we were gone. When my oldest grandson was not playing ball we were busy with:Bass Pro Shop! These two could have spent every day here. They both love to fish and their mom tells them as soon as they are done with their work at home they can go to a local pond to go fishing! It’s a win-win situation! :)
One of the days the team went over to watch the NBA summer league games at UNLV, so I took the opportunity to go to my favorite place in Las Vegas:I found this quilt shop last March and I just had to visit it again on this Las Vegas trip, while I was here! I told myself that I could not buy any quilt kits…so I did the next best thing and I bought Halloween fabric! :)Look at all of this goodness! I know exactly what I am going to do with some of the fabric…it is going to make Halloween pillows, the rest of it will go to good use because you can never have too much Halloween fabric. It is right up there with Christmas and Americana fabric! I got a couple of kits for some wool pin cushions and more thread for my wool quilt that I am working on, you can see that quilt here.
I was able to get one more of the quilt blocks done while we were on this trip…but I am still a couple of months behind. I need to get going on this, but I am not worried because they are great to work on in the cold winter months when I can’t be outside!
Here is a close up of this block. All of the appliques are wool and then you do a blanket stitch around each of the piece! I am really enjoying learning how to do this because this is the first real project that I have done with wool applique.
The boys on the team had a great time and they are all a good bunch of kids. This was a fun, fast, whirlwind trip, but I think that both of our grandsons had a good time. They were so good and got along so well! It is nice that brothers can be such good friends.
We got home late Sunday night and on Monday morning the painters were there at 8:00 am so that we can start on our next room makeover! No rest for the wicked!!!
