Yesterday I mentioned that my daughter was making some things for her new house. Well of course she wanted new bedding and bedroom decor for the kids, so we got busy making some quilts. For her son’s room…she is doing it in super hero’s and the colors are the bright primary colors, so she decided that the quilt needed to be in those colors but with a simple pattern so as not to be too busy with the other decor. This is what she came up with and I think that it is perfect! She has all of the primary colors except for red and that will be the accent color in his room, so she will add some red pillows and there is red in the pictures that are going to hang on the wall. This was a very simple quilt to make. She simply cut the big stripes into 10.5 inches by the width of the fabric and the smaller chevron stripes were 2 inches by the width of the fabric. She sewed the strips together and then trimmed the edges even. She cut the letters out of the same fabric as the binding and the back. She used wonder-under to iron them on and then I appliqued around the edges. I quilted it for her using a simple all over pattern with a few stars thrown in the pattern. I also did the binding for her because she would want it to be done in time for the new house! :) (she does not do binding!)Here is a close up of the name. This quilt could be done in any colors with any name or word appliqued onto it! It is a fun, easy idea that could be used many ways!I think that he loves it and he is now ready to move into their new home with his own bedroom!
My granddaughter made this turning twenty quilt last summer and has been saving it for her new bedroom. She is just going to fold it to put at the end of her bed because it is only a lap quilt, but it matches the colors of her new bedroom. So now I think that they have the bedding squared away and they are ready to get everything all set up!
I love how easy this striped quilt was to make and the fact that you can personalize not only the colors, but the name or a word! How fun is that? These would make wonderful gifts and they are so easy to put together! What would you do on a quilt like this?
Now that we have some of my daughter’s projects done…I can get to a few more of my own! Who am I kidding?…I will never get all of my projects done! :)
