Coral Hello Sign and Stand

My daughter is getting ready to move into her new home and wanted a couple of fun crafts to decorate with, so we made her a hello board and stand for her new front porch!coral hello sign and standI love the coral and gray colors!  The outside of her house is dark and light gray and white trim, so this is going to look great outside on her porch.hello board and standThese signs are very easy to make.  Just paint your slat board, (I got mine at the Wood Connection) the color that you want the writing to be, let your paint dry well, then apply the vinyl word on top of that color.  Make sure that you smooth all the edges down good to seal the top color out.   Now paint the top color.  I did two good coats of the top color.  Distress your board with sandpaper making sure you get all of the edges and down to the bottom color (gray) on the front of the board. Then remove the vinyl lettering and distress a little more around the letters.  If you have any paint that has seeped under the vinyl you can distress it well right there and you will never know!  Add a coat of spray varnish and attach a ribbon to the back side of the board to hang your finished sign.

I have included the “hello” pattern for those of you that want to make your own.  If you do not have a cutting machine to cut your vinyl, you could use this template to make a stencil.  You will need to cut out the pattern with an Xacto knife on either a piece of chipboard or a thin sheet of plastic.  In this case you will paint the background color first, (coral) then when it has dried you can apply the stencil on the top.  You can still distress the board and the wood color will show through, not the gray color.  Be sure to add a good coat of varnish to protect the paint.

Coral hello board and standI found the stand at the Wood Connection and all we did was paint it black.  The hook is already on the stand so all we had to do to finish it was to give it a good coat of varnish to protect it because it will be outside on her covered porch.

So now you have a fun little project that you could make…to welcome anyone coming to your home, or even to welcome in Spring!
