Fruit Slushies

Are you ready to start making Fruit Slushies now that the weather is starting to warm up?fruit slushiesI always freeze peaches, raspberries and strawberries in the summer and then I don’t want to use too many of them up in the winter, which is dumb, because that is why I freeze them!  But come spring and early summer I am ready to use them up before the new crops start coming!  They are perfect for making these fruit slushies!

These slushies start with a simple syrup that you can make extra of… so that you have it ready to go when you are in the mood for a slushie!  You will need to keep a few limes on hand or juice a bunch of them and keep the juice in 1/2 pint mason jar!  The lime juice is what sends these slushies over the top.  They are sweet with the fruit and tart with the lime juice…a perfect combination!

For the Simple Syrup
  1. 1 cup water
  2. 1 cup sugar
For Each Slushie
  1. 1 cup frozen fruit
  2. 1/2 cup ice
  3. 4 Tablespoons Simple Syrup
  4. 2 teaspoons fresh lime juice
For the simple syrup
  1. Bring the water and sugar to a boil for 2-3 minutes until the sugar is dissolved. Let cool and pour into a mason jar for future use. (Can double this recipe and keep in the fridge)
  2. For the fruit slushies: Can double or triple as needed, depending on the size of your blender
  3. Combine everything in the jar of your blender and puree on low at first, then on high until everything is well blended and creamy. You can add a small amount of water if too thick. Pour into glasses and garnish with fruit chunks if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
  1. I like to make a double batch of the simple syrup and keep it in a mason jar in the fridge for future use. I also squeeze several limes at the same time and keep them in a separate jar. Then you are ready to go when you need a fruit slushie!

Don’t mind all of the calories and carbs that are showing up in this recipe…they are for all of the syrup and you are only adding  4 tablespoons.

Are you ready to sit outside in the cool evening air and sip on one of these refreshing fruit slushies?  I am!!

fruit slushieI made this slushie with peaches and raspberries, but you can use any combination of fruit that you like.  I am thinking strawberries, bananas, blueberries and blackberries just to mention a few!  Make some simple syrup and then you are ready to try any combinations that tickle your fancy!

I think that this recipe would also be good with a little 7-up.  It would give it a little bit of fizz and who doesn’t like a little bit of fizz?  :)  Hope the warm weather is soon coming to your neighborhood if you don’t already have it!
