I made a little coloring bag a year or so ago and my granddaughter has loved it and taken it to church . It is made with these cute pink floral and stripe fabrics, very girly.
My three year old grandson decided that he needed a bag to take to church, so he kind of “stole” it from his sister and was wearing it at church. Someone made a comment to him about “nice purse” and he was very defiant about the fact that it was not a purse, but that it was his crayon bag! (No confidence issues here!) Well, Grandma decided that perhaps he needed a more “manly” looking coloring bag, (and the fact that she wanted to practice her quilting skills) so this is what I came up with.
I think that the pirate theme is a little bit better. You quilt two pieces of fabric together and then cut out all the pieces. They are simply sewn together and you add binding to all of the edges to finish off the seams. The girl purse has more rounded edges, but I kept the boy one more boxy and square.
There is a full size pocket on the back, to put extra papers in or perhaps to store a small treat or two. It measures about 7 x 10, so it is just the right size for your little pint sized wearer.
He was quite happy with his version of a coloring bag.
These are usually the pictures I get before I finally get a good one, as I said before, no confidence issues here!
If you would like to make a coloring purse, you can find the pattern here, from ClotheslineQuilts.
This was a fun little project for me to practice my quilting skills. I have really been working quite a bit on it lately. I think that I am getting addicted to quilting! That is really all I need is just one more hobby! :) Do know anyone that “Needs” a coloring bag, they are really simple to make and they make a great little gift!
Hope you have a great day! Love Ya!
