My next door neighbor gave me a table this summer that she was going to throw out. I was so excited to have it and could not wait to start working on it. Then I had my accident and could not do anything for the next two months. I really did not think that I would be able to get to it this summer…but about a month ago I started sanding and my arm did okay…so I decided that I would be able to get it finished, and I love the results!
Thanks Becky, for giving me such a great project!!This table is going to go in our cabin. It is perfect, because it folds down and does not take up much room when we are not using it, but it has two leaves that fold out when we need a bigger table! This is what the table looked like when I got it. I love the spindle legs! I sanded the top down quite a bit, but left some of the small holes in the top and wanted it to have that aged look!I took the leaves off and stained the legs and the skirt with a very dark brownish black (walnut) stain. I did not wipe it off very much because I wanted the dark color. I then painted the top of the table with a buttermilk yellow color. I distressed all of the edges and then did a very light stain on the table top with the same dark stain that I used for the legs. I wiped most of the stain off, but loved how it stayed in the little holes and distressed edges! I then did several coats of a satin varnish to protect the table. This table will be used quite a bit, so I wanted a good finish on the top. I got all of my paint from Four Chairs Furniture StoreOn this side view you can see the skirt. Here it is with the leaves folded out. This is a small table, but you could easily sit 4 people at this table. It is perfect for playing games, putting puzzles together or…of course…for eating!
I was able to save all of the original hardware which I loved, because there was no way I would be able to find this hardware anywhere around here! I was able to get the rust off with a rust remover that I got at Home Depot. You just spray it on and wipe off. I ended up soaking all of the screws in the spray overnight and they were all cleaned the next morning! So Easy!So now my new table is all ready to take up to the cabin!
I love finishing old furniture and so my youngest son asked me if I would finish a table and 4 chairs that he had started but never finished! So being the glutton for punishment that I am…I have another project, as long as the weather will hold out! :) I like to work on my projects out on the lawn, so I guess that I need to get going on this new project before the bad weather sets in for good!
Do any of you have any fun DIY projects that you are working on? I just love taking something that is old or outdated and giving it a new look!
I think my aunt has a table like this. I love how yours turned out.
Thank you! I love this table and I am so grateful to my neighbor for just giving it to me! She is wonderful!
