Children’s Donation Quilts

Well, it is that time of year again…time to make some Children’s Donation Quilts. One of my Christmas traditions that I like to do is make children’s quilts to donate to a hospital.  We donate them at Christmas time, but they could get handed out anytime during the year.JoAnn’s had all of their flannel on sale a couple of weeks back, and my daughter told me about a coupon that I could use on top of the sale price, so we got enough fabric to make 8 quilts!  There were so many fun prints, such as these wilderness/plaid prints.  And these darling puppy and paw prints! Then we found some camping/camo combinations.  Also some owl/polka dot flannels.

With so many fun prints to choose from, it was a little bit hard to stop at just 4 different quilts!  There is enough fabric to make two quilts of each of the fabric combinations!I ended up going back to JoAnn’s before the sale ended and picked ups several bolts of fabric for the backs and for a few Christmas pillowcases!!!

Am I crazy…or am I crazy???

This quilt tradition started several years ago when one of our granddaughters was in the hospital .  She was given a quilt and a coloring book and crayons.

Ever since then we as a family, have tried to make quilts at Christmas time for a fun service!

I usually try to get some of the kids involved in the making of the quilts and/or the delivering of the quilts!  They love it!These quilts are very simple to put together.  They are 9″ strips by width of the fabric.  Put six different fabrics together.  Trim the quilt to be 40″ wide.

The finished quilt is about 40″ x 53″.

Sewing the binding on is the part that takes the longest!!!  Here the binding is sewn on, but I have not done the hand stitching on the back!  Bindings are great projects to do in front of the TV!

So that is our Children’s Donation Quilts.  Do you have any service projects that you do for Christmas time?  They are some of the best memories that we have of Christmas!

Thanks for Visiting…Hope you are having a wonderful day!

    1. Marcia, It is a great project that I can include my family in! I love that they can help make the quilts, or help put the packages together or to simply help deliver them!

  1. Your quilts are a great idea for us to use over the thanksgiving break. Also wanted you to know I just send your Halloween punch game for our Halloween dinner last night. It was a huge HIT!!

  2. Fantastic tradition <3 I love that you used flannel, it's always so darn cold in hospital rooms and that's a great way to make them feel a little more cozy.
