There is a story behind this title…
a while back one of my DIL’s brought dessert for dinner on a Sunday get together and when they arrived at our house, she told her oldest son (age 9) to tell me what they had brought for dessert. He declared: “Better than Hunting Cake!” (Remember, that this is our little hunter!) Well, we all got a good laugh out of that and we all knew what the real name of the cake was, but he thought that was the real name. He has a smart mom to avoid that topic! So anyway here is a version of Chex Mix that is called Better Than Sex Hunting Chex Mix that is to die for. You have to be careful because this one is soooo addicting! It is a combination of chocolatey, sweet, salty, peanut butter, and marshmellowy bliss!I found the recipe here, but I have adapted it a bit because it was little bit too brittle for me the first time I made it. (It still got eaten however!) But look at this little concoction, does this not make you want some?
So does anyone want to make this little delight?
Better Than Sex Chex Mix
8 cups Chocolate Chex Cereal
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
6 Tablespoons butter
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup MINI Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
1 cup mini marshmellows
1/2 cup caramel bits (found by the chocolate chips) or you can use regular caramel melted (I have used both and they are great!)
1 Tablespoon whipping cream
1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
1/2 cup white chocolate chips
1 tsp coarse sea salt or kosher salt
Pour cereal into a large microwaveable bowl. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper or foil. In a 2-cup microwaveable measuring cup, microwave brown sugar and butter uncovered on high for 1-2 minutes, stirring after 1 minute, until melted and smooth. Stir in baking soda until dissolved and foamy. Pour caramel mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Microwave on high for 1 minute then stir well and spread out on prepared cookie sheet. Let cool for at least 10 minutes. Break into bite size pieces. Make sure Chex mixture is cool to the touch (so candy doesn’t melt). Evenly sprinkle the mini Reese’s PB cups, and the marshmallows over the Chex mixture. In a small microwaveable bowl, microwave caramel bits and cream uncovered on high for 1 minute or until chips can be stirred smooth. Use a spoon or fork and drizzle over the Chex mixture. Put the milk chocolate and the white chocolate into separate little ziplock baggies.(Then after, you can just throw the baggies away and there is no mess!) Separately melt in microwave for 1 minute at 50 percent power. Take out and smush around, repeat for another 30 seconds at 50 percent power and smush until melted. Cut a very small tip and pipe chocolate over the Chex mixture. Quickly sprinkle coarse salt over all the mixture while the chocolate drizzles are still wet. Let set. Break apart and store in tightly covered container. Enjoy!I put some in this cute little box with a coffee filter inside to line the box, taped a Doilie to the front then tied up the whole thing with a big bow. Now who wouldn’t want to receive this? I know I would! I could even add a tag with the name “Better Than Hunting Chex Mix to the front! :)
Yummy! I love chex mix and this looks divine…thanks so much for sharing :)
