Halloween Hexies Table Runner

Are you ready to start putting out your Halloween decorations?  I have a fun Halloween Hexies Table Runner to show you!I went to a quilt show a couple of months ago.  My neighbor won a ribbon with one of her quilts and I wanted to go see it.

There were so many beautiful quilts, but for some reason I was drawn to several of the English paper piecing hexie quilts!

Intrigued, I asked my neighbor if she would show me how to do these hexie blocks.  She has done several quilts with them.

And of course…she agreed to help me!

It starts with a paper template and you have to hand sew the fabric around the hexagon paper template.  But the fun starts when you fussy cut the fabric! This fun jack-o-lantern fabric was the first fabric I knew I wanted for the centers!

From there, I simply went to my Halloween fabric stash and picked out oranges, greens and blacks!

What is fun about English paper piecing hexies, is that once you have your fabric decided and cut, you can take them on the go with you!

Hand sewing can be done anywhere, such as at the ball park!!! :)

You can also do them in front of the TV, waiting for an appointment, at the park, really anywhere your little heart desires!

After you have sewn around all of the hexagons,  you press them and then you can start sewing them all together into a design of your choice.

Again, they are sewn by hand!  So it is still a portable project!I wanted a simple project for my first hexie try, so I decided that  I would do a Halloween Hexies Table Runner!

I appliqued all of the sewn-together hexagons onto this fun Halloween fabric. Then I quilted around the hexies and made a spiderweb shape in each of the black hexies on the front.

This is such a learning curve for me , but I did like trying new techniques.I am happy with  my Halloween Hexies Table Runner.

My granddaughter was here over the weekend and she decided that it was time to start putting out  all of the Halloween decorations.

All I can say…is that if she is willing to help me…I’m all in!

Have you started decorating for Halloween?  It is just a little bit early…but I am glad mine is all done!

Thanks for stopping by.  Hope you have a wonderful day!

    1. Debbie S, Thank you so much for taking the time to write your kind comment! I appreciate your words and your sweet support! Hope you have a wonderful day!

    1. Marcia, Thank you for your kind comment. I have enjoyed learning this new technique and it was fun to put it together in a simple table runner. Hope you have a wonderful day.

  1. What a cute runner! I love it! I also love to English paper piece. Sue Daley is an Australian designer who works a lot with is technique. She uses an acrylic template to cut out the shapes and a glue pen to baste the fabric to the card instead of stitching them on. I love her method because I can more quickly get to the best part of stitching the shapes together and watch my blocks form. She has videos on YouTube that are great!

Have fun with English paper piecing! Thanks for sharing your runner today!

    1. Shantelle, Thank you so much for your comment. I will have to go online and learn how to do paper piecing the FAST way! :) It was a little bit slow and tedious for me, that is why I started with a table runner. Maybe I will attempt a bigger project if I can find an easier way to make the hexies! Thanks again!

  2. What do you do when you are 83 years old, a widow for 12 years, and you have lost all the enthusiasm for Halloween? I love your table runner, but have no desire to have one. Just one more thing to leave for my family to decide what to do with when I’m gone. And there are already plenty of things like that.

    1. Lynn, I hear you! I have been going through each room and dejunking and throwing things out or giving them to the DI so that I can live a much simpler life.
But, I still have young grandchildren that love to help me decorate or otherwise I do not know if I would have the energy or the ambition to do it!!!
You need to just enjoy the decorations that others put out and be happy in the knowledge that when Halloween is over that you do not have to put it all away!!! :)
Hope you have a wonderful day!! Thank you for taking the time to write your comment. I love hearing from you!
