Baby Cakes Quilt

Today I have a darling Baby Cakes quilt to show you that I started a year ago!  I had all of the blocks finished and all I had to do is put it together and add the border and I kind of forgot all about it, until I was cleaning my sewing room a while back!  I’ll bet that none of you ever do that…right?baby cakes quiltMy best friend, Kathy, and I both bought this fabric about a year ago on one of our shopping/lunch trips.  I love the colors in this quilt and I thought it would just be a darling quilt for a darling girl!baby cakes quiltThis is my littlest grand child.  Isn’t she a cutie.  She just turned two and so I decided that it was time for a new blanket for her to love!baby cakes quiltYes…we are at the ballpark watching her sister and her brother play t-ball!  I love the pattern for this quilt.  It is easy to piece the blocks and easy to assemble.  The flowers and leaves are raw edges and will fray when it is washed!baby cakes quiltI also love the dimension of the ric-rac for stems.  Such a fun addition!baby cakes quiltThis pattern, Baby Cakes, is by Heather Mulder Peterson.  The book is called Little Quilts 4 Little People.  There are so many darling patterns in this book for little boys and little girls!  I am hoping to make more of them in the future!baby cakes quiltI put a red minky fabric for the back, so she can cuddle and love it!  I just did an all-over pattern for the quilting and bound the edges with a pink chevron fabric.baby cakes quiltI took it as a good sign that she loved this quilt…considering that it was very hot the day that we took these pictures and she kept putting the blanket on top of her lap!  This is my Baby Cakes quilt for my darling little Baby Cakes!

  1. I love all your quilts. I noticed that they are machine quilted, and after seeing your cute America pillow I went out a purchased the pattern. After making it, the pillow just wasn’t the same without the cute quilting. Could you share with me what type of machine you have, and since I am new to Utah, where would you suggest going to look for a machine.

    1. Shari, I have a Handi Quilter 16 machine. I bought mine used, from an individual person, but I know that all of the Cotton Shops in Utah have them and they offer classes to teach you how to use it! Good luck! I love mine and I am learning new things all of the time! :)
