Office Organization

Office Organization

At the first of the year, I decided that I would try to take one room at a time and go through everything and de-junk and organize.

Today I have my Office Organization all done! This feels soooo good!

I am not sure why I feel this need to go through everything, but it is a good feeling!

The office got to be pretty much the dumping grounds for anything that I did not have a place for!

If I was not sure what to do with something…I just put it in my office.  At Christmas time it was even worse!

This next picture is embarrassing, but I am going to show you anyway!I brought in another table and it became another dumping area!

So, I hired my oldest granddaughter to help me because she is really good at organizing and she is not afraid to tell me when to throw things out!! :)We started with this big closet.  I didn’t take a before picture, but from the looks of the last picture, I am sure you can imagine what it looked like.  It was overflowing to say the least!

Now…I have several empty places on these shelves and I have cleared out all of the junk!Next we moved to the desk.  There are not a lot of drawers in this desk, so it was a fairly simple thing to clean.   Purging several old files and organizing the drawers took care of the desk.My old laptop is still useful and I have several saved files and images on it.  It is not ready to be destroyed just yet.

So I found this table top that fits perfectly over the top of my printer.  It is out of the way, yet still accessible.  Perfect! Then we moved onto these bookshelves.

Look at the empty shelves!!!

LOVE!

These shelves were completely full before we started, now I have plenty of room if I want to grow my library!

A lot of this went to the DI and I hope that it will find a good home! The next thing on our Office Organization was this window seat.  Those three drawers below the seat were filled with different craft things.  Now two of the drawers are completely empty!  My granddaughter went with me to Home Goods to find the cute pillows.  Now we can actually sit in this window seat!Last on our cleaning list, was this little half book shelf.

I keep all of my cards there and have filed pictures in the file boxes.  So a good purging took place and we were able to clean up this corner quite nicely.

Don’t you love all the natural light that comes into this room?  It gets the morning light from the south window and the afternoon gets a wonderful filtered light through the trees!Last on our cleaning was my newest hobby!   Lettering is what I am trying to learn right now.  It is a practice, practice and practice some more type of hobby, but it is fun!

Hopefully sometime in the future, I will be able to share with you something that I have created…but for now, I will just keep practicing!

So that is my office organization.

It feels so good to clean out!  Have you cleaned/organized anything this summer?  If so, I would love to hear what your favorite thing about it was.

Thanks for visiting…Hope you have a wonderful day!

  1. My office looks even a little worse I think than your before pictures. It becomes a dump off for sure. You have given me motivation!! I need to hire a granddaughter as well I think. It would make it happen!!
What color is the green on your walls in there. I really like it.

    1. Saundra, I hope that you have a granddaughter to hire! :) The name of the paint color is Martha Stewart’s “Oolong Tea”. I painted that wall a few years ago, and I am not sure if they still have that color. I got mine at Home Depot. Hope this helps.

  2. Well done! Throwing things out is hard. I’m a great organizer and pretty good at purging things, but in the craft/office/sewing/laundry room it is super hard to get rid of things. Good for you! Quite a task.

    1. Lori, Thank you for taking the time to write your comment. I appreciate your kind words. You are right about throwing things out! But with my helper, I was able to go through things pretty quickly and have no regrets! :)

  3. You did a beautiful job of organizing your office! I am so envious of how lovely it looks. I also have a storage/office, but my granddaughter is part of the reason, as her things are stored until she finds her own home. Thank you for your beautiful example of what can be done, and hopefully some day I can follow your suggestions.

    1. Ruth, Hopefully you will be able to do your office soon. But it is nice of you to let your granddaughter store some of her things there. But it really does feel good to be able to go through my things and get it all organized!

  4. I have been purging/decluttering for almost a year now. I did really good for a while, but haven’t been as consistent lately. Thanks for inspiring me to get back at it so I can have a peaceful room like this! You did a great job!
