I planted a hydrangea bush last spring because I love the big balls of blossoms that they produce. I found a beautiful pink one and I have loved it all summer long. But little did I know that when the blossoms die they fade into a beautiful green and yellow color! I saw a hydrangea wreath somewhere out there in blogland and decided that I would try my hand at making one and I have to say that I am so excited about the results! So does anyone else out there have a hydrangea bush that has a bunch of fading blossoms like this one? (But don’t you love those beautiful pink ones that are still going strong?) So who would like to make a hydrangea wreath? They are really simple to make and yet they look so elegant!I used an 18″ straw wreath because that is what I already had on hand, but you could also use a grapevine wreath.I cut a bunch of stems and laid them out on my wreath. I had to get some more from my wonderful neighbor because I just planted my bush this spring, so it is not very big yet. Hers are the more yellow color and I love the combination!Cut each stem and take off most of the leaves. I ended up having very few leaves. You will need to cut the stems so they are just long enough to stick into the wreath and sit right on top of the wreath. You do not want them standing up above the wreath.I just used my scissors to poke a hole in the wreath. I left the plastic on so that the straw would not make a mess everywhere. The straw wreath does not show from the front, so you do not need to worry about seeing the plastic.Insert all of the blossoms into the wreath and then just simply add a burlap ribbon to hang it with. I tried adding a burlap bow, but did not like it, I like the simple beauty of the hydrangea blossoms! Here is a close up of these beautiful blossoms. Don’t you love all the colors going on in each of the different blooms?
Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers!! Thanks for the tutorial…..I just have to find someone who is willing to give up their flowers for me. For my sister’s 50th wedding anniversary party they made table decorations with hydrangeas, pink and blue, with pink roses. Soooo beautiful!1
I love hydrangeas too and I think that for a wedding they would be gorgeous! I hope that you can find someone to give up their flowers for you! Thanks for your comment, I love to hear from my readers.
