Craft Retreat

We had a fun little craft retreat at our cabin this last weekend.  It was kind of fun because I had my sister bring a friend, and my friend  brought her sister and I brought another friend.  So we all had someone we knew and then we got to make new friends!  It was great.  Each group was supposed to bring a craft for everyone else to make.  We did not put any restrictions on what we would do, we just put a $10 limit on each project.  It was so much fun to see what everyone came up with.   I decided that since I was hosting that perhaps I should do two crafts, well guess what… so did every one else!  So instead of 3 projects, we made 6.  Oh what fun we had!

We crafted, ate, went shopping, ate some more, giggled, fed the deer, crafted some more,  stayed up late talking, ate again, fed the deer again and crafted some more, then went shopping again on the way home!

Here is my fun little group with one of our projects: How fun is this for Halloween?   (a tutorial is coming!)

Wicked Board

This weekend we are doing a Girl’s Craft Retreat and this painted board is one of my projects!  I did one of these here and I told you that I would show you how to make one, so here it is!  I have a great little trick for you that will help you get clean, crisp lines with no paint seeping under.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween from our family to yours!

Aren’t these just the cutest little spooks!

We had our Halloween party this weekend and this is what the goodies looked like!  I made this popcorn crunch and it was so good.  I used the popcorn puffs instead of popcorn, because I cannot eat popcorn with my braces. (What grandma has braces at this age?  I know of one crazy one!)   Anyway the popcorn was great and I added an orange flavoring to the orange chocolate and cut up orange slices !Here are the candy corn cupcakes and the mini donuts.  By the time I got around to frosting the cupcakes I was so tired that I just did them very quickly and you can tell, but oh well, they tasted great. I had a treat bag for all the kids to take home, complete with a mummy juice box, popcorn, candy and glo sticks for them to use tonight when they go trick or treating. We played a couple of games and had a fish pond which is a tradition that the kids ask about every year!

What are some of your Halloween traditions?  I hope that you all have a great day and a Happy Halloween!

Getting Ready for Our Halloween Party

I have been baking, cooking and crafting up a storm the past couple of days trying to get ready for our Halloween Party this weekend!  Thank goodness for Pinterest, I got tons of ideas.

Here’s what I have been up to:

Edible Eyeballs

Black Licorice Skeleton Hands

Juice Mummy Box

Glo Sticks in A Jar

Candy Corn Cupcakes

Candy Corn Pom PomsI made Halloween mini donuts, Halloween Crunch Popcorn, and that is not any of the food part yet!  Whew! What are you doing for Halloween?  I know lots of you are helping at the schools and in your work places.  I love Halloween, I think that it is my 2nd favorite holiday only next to Christmas!

UEA Weekend

This past week the kids had their fall break from school, so we decided that the ones that were still in town, would meet for lunch at the Artic Circle in Saragtoga Springs because they always decorate it for Halloween.  The cousins always seem to have a great time when they are together and really do get along well!  They all had a kids meal with their spooky prize! (yum?)

There was this big spooky tree right in the middle of the restaurant, Cobwebs and all! Then there was this pit with all the skeleton bones and skulls and a place with eyeballs in it!

There is a wise old wizard. And lots of old skull bones!Pretty scary, huh?The kids kept saying that they needed to go to the bathroom and when I went with one of them I figured out why…the hallway to the bathroom was darkened and there were things hanging from the ceiling and lots of spooky sounds coming out of the walls!

The kids had a great time and it was good to let the cousins be friends!
If you are in the area… it is a fun place to take your little ones!

Fun Craft Night with… Landee See Landee Do!

Last weekend my friend Sharee and I went to Bountiful for a fun craft night with Landee from Landee See Landee Do.  She is a cute, fun, energetic girl, and was so sweet and kind to us.  She has a darling blog and you really should check it out!

We made these darling subway art boards. Sharee’s daughter met us there for a little while, she is at Weber State going to school and she had her mom bring her a few necessities…like homemade cookies!

Sharee and I had so much fun on our girl’s night out.  You would think that we had not seen each other in months, the way we talked all night long.  Never a dull moment!  I love that this board is double-sided!  It makes for better storage…one board, two holidays, you can’t beat that!

This is the Halloween side. This is the Thanksgiving side.  I love it!

Thanks Sharee and Landee for a fun evening!

Fun Halloween Books

I love children’s books and I have two that we get out to read every year for Halloween.  My grandchildren love these two; the boys love,

“Frank was a Monster who wanted to Dance.”

Written and Illustrated by Keith Graves

It is a monstrously funny, deliciously disgusting, horrifyingly hilarious story of a monster who follows his dream.

The illustrations in this book are delightfully wacky!

The girls love this darling book by Mary Engelbreit,

“Queen of Halloween”

It tells about how Ann Estelle is ready for a Halloween night on the town, but Halloween can also be a little bit scary.  Will Ann Estelle be brave enough to ring the bell of the spookiest house in  town?

Of course the illustrations in the book are darling.

This book also includes a paper doll of Ann Estelle, so that is a fun little bonus!

I hope that you can spend some time this weekend reading to a child and enjoy their wonderful responses, it is so fun to see the delight in their faces as you read the story.  What are some of your favorite children’s books?

Halloween Bingo

Here is a cute little bingo game that you could play for FHE, a school party, or at your own Halloween party!

There are 6 game boards and 2 pages of calling cards.  You can use M&M’s or candy corn for markers, or buttons or paper circles.  You may want to laminate the playing cards for durability.

To print, just right click and go to copy.  Open your favorite program, like word or any other program you like. Right click again and go to paste.  These are 8 1/2 x 11 format, but you could resize them to fit 2 on a page in landscape setting.

Happy Haunting!

You can also email these to a lot of your favorite copy stores and they can print them for you.  Alphagraphics in my area, will print them for .56 a page, and that is on cardstock, so that is a pretty good price.  You could also have them laminated (I am not sure of the price of lamination, but their prices seem to be very reasonable) and you would just have to go pick them up and cut them out and you are ready to go!

You can also email these to a lot of your favorite copy stores and they can print them for you.  Alphagraphics in Lehi will print them for .56 a page, and that is on cardstock, so that is a pretty good price.  You could also have them laminated  and you would just have to go pick them up and cut them out and you are ready to go!

Glutton for Punishment!

I saw this cute Halloween countdown calendar on Studio 5 the other day and I just knew that I needed to make it!  The problem is…that I can never just make one!  I figured that if I was going to make one, I might as well make six!  I made one for me and for each of the girls, and then I figured I might as well make an extra one just in case…   like the title says-

I am just a Glutton for Punishment!

But really and truly they were so cute and so easy that I am glad that I was able to make all of them!

It is a thirteen day countdown so you still have time to make one. If you would like to make your own, (or maybe you are a glutton too, and will want to make multiples!) you will need to go here for a free download of all the vintage prints and the numbers.  Kelly even has very detailed intructions on how to put it all together. She is a very talented crafter and I am so thankful that she was willing to share with all of us! I noticed on her blog that she will be on Studio 5 again on Wed,Oct 19th, making paper pumpkins. It will be fun to see what she will make this time!

Happy crafting!

Pin Your Heart on the Skeleton!

I love, love, love Halloween!

(As if you couldn’t tell!)

The food, the decorations, the games, the cool crisp air.  I love everything about Halloween.

I found this cute little game on Pinterest, and I thought that  it would be fun for our family party, or for all you room mothers out there, here is a quick, easy game to do.  There is a down load for the pattern here:

Too Cute!
