Monogram Window Frame

I was lucky enough to find an old window frame at an antique place a couple of weeks ago and I already had an idea in mind of what I wanted to do with it!  Since Monograms are such the rage right now, I decided that was what I would put on my window frame!  I am pretty excited about how it turned out…what do you think? This is what my frame looked like when I got it home and power washed it!  There was hardly any paint on it to begin with and so I knew that I would need to add a little bit of color to it, but not a lot!To antique it, I spray painted it antique white, then I sanded the heck out of it and I still was not happy with it, so I stained it just enough to bring out the wood color!  I love how it looks now.  Don’t you love the latch on the bottom!Next, I bought a wooden letter “Y” at my favorite local place, “The Wood Connection”.  I painted it black with the technique I showed here.  Then I mod podged the chevron paper to the front of the letter.  I tied a ribbon and some tulle to cutesie it up a bit.  I actually had more ribbons on it and took them off because I liked the simplicity of it with just one ribbon and the tulle. Then I simply wired the “Y” to my wreath.  So easy.  This would be a cute wreath in and of itself, if you want to make a simpler version of mine.
I then wired the wreath to my window frame and Ta Dah!  It is done.I love the look of it out in my yard, but that is not a very feasible place for it, so I hung it on the wall right outside my front door so that it welcomes all who come to visit! If you do not have an antique window frame, you could still do this with an old picture frame and it would also be adorable !

This would also be really easy to swap out the monogram for different seasonal decorations, and have a whole new look for every holiday!

  1. I love that! It would look great over my fireplace…lol. Thank for sharing this at Make it Pretty Monday party at The Dedicated House. Hope to see your prettiness again on Monday. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

        1. I got that at Tai Pan Trading and I love it! I have used it for so many things, but what it gets used for most of the time is holding a big family picture in my front room. When we get a new picture taken I simply swap out the old picture for the new!

    1. I think that I used a very light coat of Vermont Maple, but you can use whatever you have, because it is a very light coat, and then, yes I did sand again over the stain. Hope that this helps.
