Visiting Teaching Handout-June 2013

This month the visiting teaching handout for June is titled “Joy in Family History”.

My husband and I both come from families that have several people that do a lot of family history and a lot of our work has been done, but we went to one of the church’s  family history centers several months ago and one of the really fun things that we did was to generate a family genealogy fan!  This is a great image that will show you all of your ancestors all in the same place.  It shows you who has been found and where there are holes in your lines.  It is really a cool way to see everything all at once!

You do not have to go to a family history center to generate your own fan, anyone can do your own online here:

Genealogy Fan

This is a fun way to get started with your family history, or if you have already done some of your history, this is a great way to see what you have done and where the holes need to be filled in.  I really encourage you to try this and also to encourage your sisters that you visit to try it out.  I would love for you to share this link with them.

So this month, for the visiting teaching message, I thought that it would just be fun to do a tag that says “Scatter Sunshine through Family History”.

Thursday’s Thought-If You Have a Garden…

I have had today’s thought in my office on a magnet board for a couple of years now, so I guess that I would have to say that it is one of my favorite thoughts!  I love that all we need is to feed the body and the soul.  So basic, yet so true!

I do not know who the author is so if anyone out there knows,  please let me know so that I can give credit to the author!

(Linda in Colorado Springs just sent me the author…Marcus Tullius Cicero.  Thanks Linda!)

Thursday’s Thought- A Mother’s Hug

Today’s thought is just in time for Mother’s Day!

This would be a fun little print to frame to give to your mother for her special day to let her know that she is always with you in your heart!

Wedding Subway Art Picture

Love is in the Air!

Last week I promised you a gift idea that you can use for all those spring weddings that are coming up!

This is a fun subway art picture.  I buy a nice frame to put this in and add a note that they can change out the picture later for one of their wedding pictures when they get them back!   Although a lot of the recipients like the subway art and say that they are not going to change it out! :)

It All Started With A Crush

A couple of weeks ago I was able to help with a friend’s daughter’s wedding.

It was so much fun and I absolutely loved the colors…turquoise and orange!

They had a family dinner and wanted to use the Orange Crush bottles as part of the decorations!  So cute.

You Are “Toad”ally Awesome!

DSC_0358

One of the two grandkids that I tend is a three year old, so I have been trying to work with him a little bit on learning his numbers and alphabets.  I decided that my back door was a great medium to use as a teaching tool!  I can use it as a big magnet board and what kid doesn’t  love to play with magnets?  I decided that we would make it fun with the toads and the “You are “Toad”ally Awesome” saying for positive reinforcement!  I love that it is at my back door and all of the grandkids have had a little bit of fun with it and they read that saying every time they leave my house! :) Continue reading
