The White Envelope Story

I thought that I would kick off the Christmas season again this year with my most favorite Christmas story and tradition!  We have been doing this tradition in our home for several years now and I always look forward to it more than anything else that we do!  But even if you do not do this tradition in your home…it is a great story to start of your holiday season and get you in the true meaning of Christmas!

We have a tradition in our home that we started a few years ago.  My children are all grown and married, and every year we would go through this little ritual– They would say, “Mom, what do you and dad want for Christmas?”  and I would reply “that we really did not need anything,” and I could never come up with any ideas for them.

We usually all get together for Sunday dinner, and four years ago at one of these family nights, I read the following story to my family.  It reminds me so much of my own husband, because he does not like the commercialism of Christmas just like the man in the story and all of our kids had to agree, and thus was born the tradition of the “White Envelope”.  It is truly the highlight of Christmas for my husband and I.  We wake up on Christmas morning and we read the letters from each of our children and their family and I must admit, that it usually brings tears to our eyes!  What a beautiful way to start our Christmas Day!

This is my “White Envelope”, I made it out of fabric and it goes on the Christmas tree.  You could use any white envelope, but I decorated it up and we use it year after year.  All of the grand kids know exactly what it is and they get caught up in the spirit also!

Christmas Scrapbook/Journal

Last weekend I stopped at a scrapbook store and I picked up a fun class kit that they had for a Christmas Scrapbook/journal.  It was the last one they had, so I took it!  I brought it home and that afternoon I started putting it together…and by the end of the evening I had it almost completely put together!  I was so excited that it went together so quickly and it had everything that I needed plus quite a bit more…all included in the kit!Christmas Journal/scrapbook Continue reading

Star Quilts

I am back from my Christmas break!  I hope that everyone had a great holiday and that you got to do something you loved or be with someone you love!

I mentioned that I was making quilts for Christmas, well we ended up making 5 of them!  I bought a kit last summer and it had the pattern and everything in it for a complete quilt.  It was such an easy pattern that I was able to put the top together in an evening!  There was actually enough fabric in that kit to do the star and the border for a second quilt!  So that is what got me on a roll!   My husband was out of town for about a week and during that week I was able to put 4 of these quilts together and my daughter did the 5th one for her husband for Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

We want to wish you a Merry Christmas…

From our House to Yours!

I hope that your holidays are filled with warmth and happiness!

These are the fun nativity costumes that I made last year, you can find the tutorial here.

We had our Christmas dinner and nativity pageant last night and the kids got to open their presents from the cousins and from Grandma and Grandpa.  To say that they were excited, is putting it mildly!  :)  But we all had a good time and it was fun to have everyone together for a few hours.

I want to thank you, my readers, for all of your support this last year.  You are truly the nicest readers and I love to hear from you and I love to get to know some of you just a little bit.  It has been a great year for us and I am grateful for all of my many blessings this time of the year.  I am extremely thankful for the birth of the Savior and the example of His life.  Ultimately, He gave the greatest gift ever, the gift of exaltation, for which I am especially grateful.  May your holidays be filled with love and may you remember the Real Reason for the Season!

Happy Holidays!  Love Ya!

I am going to take the next few days off from blogging to spend time with my family, I hope that you are able to do the same!

Merry Christmas to “Olive” You!

I have one last Christmas Gift idea for you, I know that it is very last minute and you may just want to save this idea for next year, but  I could not show this before now, because this is what I gave some of my neighbors.  This is a fun idea for those who are watching their health.  (Which should be all of us, right?)   It is a very easy, yet great idea, because it is something that most of us would use, but don’t always buy!

Just get a bottle of olive oil and tie a big bow or two around the bottle along with this tag!

Mistle”toes” Gift Idea

I have seen this fun idea out there in blog land and thought that it was so cute that I needed to do it for my granddaughters!  It seems like all the kids have crazy sock day at school, so they could use these for that, right?  I found these darling snowman socks at Target and just had to get them, and these socks are just so soft and warm that they can wear them for slippers.

Swedish Tea Cakes

Yesterday I talked about all the different Christmas candies that I used to make with my mom when she was still here.  Today, I have a cookie recipe that I am sure a lot of you have made, but it is one that we used to make all the time just for Christmas!  These fun little morsels are so pretty on a plate and I am sure that is why my mom made them all of the time; they just look festive!
