July Calendar

This month I had in my mind that I wanted to make Lollies for the top of my calendar.  I was going to make them out of red, white and blue paper and I was going to spell July across the top.  I was all prepared to do this…but that was before my friend told me about a craft sale last week.  (The one I posted on facebook) We went together and I got BOXES of pre-made lollies!  I was in 7th heaven :)

So who needs to make lollies when you can buy them already made with cute ribbons and beads?  I simply added the letters to spell out JULY and added a patriotic sticker to the center of the end lollies, what do you think?

July 2013 Visiting Teaching Handout

This month the message for visiting teaching for our church is “Teaching and Learning the Gospel”  There is a quote by President Kimball that says in part:  “Become scholars of the scriptures-not to put others down, but to lift them up!  After all, who has any greater need to ‘treasure up’ the truths of the gospel than do women and mothers who do so much nurturing and teaching?”  So this is what I based my handout on for this month.

I thought that it would be fun to do an Americana theme since it is July.

I  also mentioned  a few days ago, that I am making some changes to my blog and one of the things I am doing is making my printables in a pdf format so that you can just download them, I hope this will make things easier for you to print them!

So this is what I came up with for this month!

Thursday’s Thought-God Bless America

Today’s thought is a patriotic one, just in time for our Nation’s Birthday.

I hope that we can all be thankful for the freedom that we enjoy.  We live in a great country and I am so grateful for all those men and women who have given so much that we can still be free!

My thanks goes out to all of those that have served!

Thursday’s Thought-Quilters are Not Greedy…

Since I have been doing a lot of quilting lately,  I thought that perhaps I should do my Thursday’s thought with quilting in mind and I have this saying written in vinyl for my sewing room, I decided it would be perfect for this week!

This saying just makes me smile!  :)

I hope that it will make you smile today too!

Patriotic Round-up

Today I decided that I would just share a few fun ideas from past posts,  to make your summer just a little bit more patriotic.  With the 4th of July coming up, maybe you could use one or two of these ideas.  Just click on the link below each picture for step-by-step directions or recipes.

This first idea, to help with your decorating needs, are these fun lollies.  They are easy to make and they are quite stunning!  I made mine into a garland and you can learn how to make your own too:

This recipe is perfect for snacking, but I must warn you that it can be very addicting!  With the sweet and salty taste, you won’t be able to eat just one handful!  It is a combination of chocolatey, sweet, salty, peanut butter, and marshmellowy bliss! This is fun to package up in individual cups or bags and looks so pretty!  There is also a story behind the name of this treat!

Better Than Hunting Chex Mix

And last, but not least, here is a fun printable for you to use!  We all know how precious our freedom is, so let’s let it RING!  You can make it into a faux canvas block, like I did here, or you can just print it and frame it.  There is the tan background or a white version.

So that is my patriotic round-up.  I hope that there is one or two ideas that you can use for your summer fun!

I “Mustache” You To Have a Happy Father’s Day

For Mother’s Day, at church, they usually hand out a flower or plant, a treat or a little book, but for Father’s day they don’t ever seem to do anything!  So I decided that needed to change this year!  A friend and I got permission to do something for all the great dad’s out there and this is what we came up with.  So simple, yet it looks fun.

Thursday’s Thought-My Father Gave Me…

Here is a last minute thought for Father’s Day.

This would make a great little gift if you want to print it and put it in a fun frame! :)

I totally feel this way about my dad and I appreciate all that he has done for me!  He is a great example for me and ever since my mom passed away, I have been able to spend more time with him and I just enjoy being around him. I love that I can still call him for any gardening help or handyman needs!  Thanks, Dad, for all you do for my family!  We all love you!

I also have to say that my husband is a great example of this in our own children.  He has always been their biggest supporter, whether in sports, business or family life.  They all still call their dad for advice and help and I am so grateful that he has this kind of relationship with all of his children!

Thanks honey, I think that you are the greatest!

Have a Thoughtful Thursday Everyone!  Love Ya!

June Calendar Ideas

Since Father’s Day is in June, I decided to make a calendar to honor Father’s!   I love the mustache craze and thought that it would be fun to incorporate them in my theme for this month!  I love how this turned out and the grandkids are having fun with the interactive mustaches!

Visiting Teaching Handout-June 2013

This month the visiting teaching handout for June is titled “Joy in Family History”.

My husband and I both come from families that have several people that do a lot of family history and a lot of our work has been done, but we went to one of the church’s  family history centers several months ago and one of the really fun things that we did was to generate a family genealogy fan!  This is a great image that will show you all of your ancestors all in the same place.  It shows you who has been found and where there are holes in your lines.  It is really a cool way to see everything all at once!

You do not have to go to a family history center to generate your own fan, anyone can do your own online here:

Genealogy Fan

This is a fun way to get started with your family history, or if you have already done some of your history, this is a great way to see what you have done and where the holes need to be filled in.  I really encourage you to try this and also to encourage your sisters that you visit to try it out.  I would love for you to share this link with them.

So this month, for the visiting teaching message, I thought that it would just be fun to do a tag that says “Scatter Sunshine through Family History”.
