Darling Ruffled Skirt

A while back my daughter made this  blue and white striped skirt  for her daughter.

She also got some fabric to make another skirt from the same “Izzy and Ivy Design” pattern book  So, today I want to show you the other skirt that she made!  I am sooo in love with this skirt, look at all those ruffles and bows… it is a little girl’s dream! (A big girls’ dream too!)

Sewing Skirts-Girls Sleepover

Last week I had three of my granddaughters for a sleepover!

One of them had been asking me when I was going to teach her how to sew, so I decided that I had better get on the ball  and get it done before school starts again.

We had a sewing… fingernail painting…lots of eating… tea party… fashion show… and dancing party!

To start of the evening we had dinner first, then we went right to work making these skirts:

Red and Yellow Quilt

Have any of you ever had a project that you worked on so much or for so long and had so many problems with it that you were sick of the project before you ever got done with it?  Well that describes this quilt perfectly!

I sewed this quilt top 5-6 years ago in a Relief Society class that we did a block a month.  I was learning how to do some of the different quilt blocks, so I can’t say that they were my best work, but I always have loved the colors in this quilt and I finished the whole top and the sashings, but I felt like it needed some borders, but I just never got the fabric, so I just never finished it!

Fast forward 6 years- I got this quilt top out a few weeks ago and found some fabric for the borders and the back.  I put it on to quilt and the tension on my quilting machine was way off and it took me several attempts and phone calls before I finally got my machine working right, I was  just about ready forget about this quilt, but I finally got it quilted only to find that when I loaded the quilt on the machine, I was 1/2 inch short  on one end, after it was all quilted!  So I had to trim the outside border all the way around!  But after I got the binding on and hung it up to take pictures, I decided that it turned out OK after all!  I still love the colors in this quilt, which is it’s redeeming quality!

Blue and White Striped Skirt

This project today comes from my daughter.  My husband and I have been gone so much the last week or so that my daughter offered to take pictures of this darling skirt that she made for her daughter to help me out!

This skirt is pieced together, so you could make this in any color combo that you want.

Humanitarian Quilts

I have been practicing my quilting techniques again lately.   I decided that I would make some quilts that I could give away to a charity and practice my quilting skills at the same time.  I figured that a small child somewhere would not care what the quilting looks like in a new blanket, right?  So this is a perfect combination for me.  I practice quilting and someone, somewhere will get a new quilt!  A win, win situation!DSC_0128

Flag Rag Quilt

I saw a flag quilt on Pinterest  the other day and decided that I needed to make one!  So I ran and got some fabric and put this together last night!  It was really easy to make, but when I washed it to make it “rag” out, some of the fabric shrunk differently than the other and it came out a little bit crooked.  I was just going to leave it, because it is just a seasonal decoration, but my OCD got the better part of me and I had to straightened it out! :)

Baby Quilt

I got one more quilt done for our new littlest granddaughter!  She was a month early, so I told her mom that I still had a month to get this done!

This was a fun quilt to make.  I made one of these quilts a few years ago, but added extra borders to make it a lap quilt.  I had so much fun making it that I decided to make another one.

I got this fabric on my own personal quilt shop hop during our trip in Arizona last March!

Quilt Block of the Month(s)

I have both May and June block(s) of the month this time.

These were both so fun to sew and they were completely different techniques!  One is paper piecing, the other one teaches how to make flying geese.  I absolutely love learning a new technique each month.  Some of these I have done before, but it seems like everyone does it just a little bit different and it is great to learn all the new ways!

Coloring Bag

I made a little coloring bag a year or so ago and my granddaughter has loved it and taken it to church .  It is made with these cute pink floral and stripe fabrics, very girly.

My three year old grandson decided that he needed a bag to take to church, so he kind of  “stole” it from his sister and was wearing it at church.  Someone made a comment to him about “nice purse” and he was very defiant about the fact that it was not a purse, but that it was his crayon bag!  (No confidence issues here!)  Well, Grandma decided that perhaps he needed a more “manly” looking coloring bag, (and the fact that she wanted to practice her quilting skills) so this is what I came up with.
