Garage Sale Nightstand Make-Over

My daughter and I went garage sale-ing at the first of the summer and she picked up a nightstand for her daughters bedroom.  She did not take “before” pictures, so that means that I have not trained her very well yet! :)

But this is the after!  So cute for a little girl! Continue reading

Ikea- Ruffled Scarf!

I was invited to a Blogger Mixer & Networking Event at Ikea.  It was so much fun to make some new blogging friends and to be able preview some of the new displays at Ikea and get a sneak peek at their new catalog! They fed us breakfast and then they sent on on a shopping spree!  It doesn’t get any better than that!  Thank you Celeste and Ikea and Tauni at SNAP for putting this great event together!

Hydrangea Wreath

I planted a hydrangea bush last spring because I love the big balls of blossoms that they produce.  I found a beautiful pink one and I have loved it all summer long.  But little did I know that when the blossoms die they fade into a beautiful green and yellow color!  I saw a hydrangea wreath somewhere out there in blogland and decided that I would try my hand at making one and I have to say that I am so excited about the results! Painted Mason Jars

When I did the visiting teaching handout for this month I pictured it with a painted mason jar.  These are so easy to make and all you need is a bottle and some spray paint and of course some cute ribbon!  These are perfect for a vase for flowers from your garden or a bunch from the grocery store. I just went outside in my yard and picked these Shasta Daisies, I had the jars, ribbon and paint so this project cost me nothing out of pocket to make.  Bonus! Continue reading

15 min Pillow Slipcovers

I have some old pillows that I use outside on my patio and they were getting pretty hammered, so I decided that I would just make some new slipcovers to put over them.  They were sooo easy to make and yet made such a difference that I wondered why I had waited so long to do them. Continue reading

Summer Flip Flop Wreath

This week I have a few ideas for some outdoor summer decor that I have been working on.   Summer is almost here and the kids will all be out of school soon, so I guess I have just been in the mood to make my little world a little more summery!

I wanted a new wreath for my front door that was bright and summery.  I have done a lot of patriotic things in the past but chose to go with the bright fun summer colors this year! Continue reading

Spring Letters

I found these fun letters at the Wood Connection before my trip to Arizona.  I like that they say “Spring” , so that I can keep them out until May!  My daughter and I got together and painted these letters yesterday. (do you like the mess, big chill cup and all) We used the easy paint technique here, that I used for the “Family” letters so I am not going to give a tutorial in this post.

I love these fun papers and the cute design in the letters! Especially the letter “i”.  And of course I love the ribbons on some of the letters.
This picture has been enhanced, but I love the fun vibrant colors.  I put these fun letters on my kitchen table and every time I walk by I feel like I have a early glimpse of spring right there in my kitchen!  It makes me happy.   We only use our kitchen table on Sunday when everyone comes over for dinner, so I do not have to move them every time we eat! :)

My daffodils are blooming, my tulips are all up and starting to bloom, my garden is starting to sprout…I think that spring is really going to come!

So what makes you happy for spring?

Knitted Dishcloths

When I was a little girl, only 4-5 years old my mother took me to a yarn shop called Hiendselman’s, in Provo, Utah.  They taught me how to knit!  It seems hard to believe now, but I can still remember the lady telling me “In – around – and through” and I remember even at that early age how I loved all the colors and textures of the yarns that were in slots on the wall!  So I guess that I have my mother to blame for all my craft making.  Even though she is no longer here, she started it!  Thanks mom!:)

It seems like every winter that I get the urge to start knitting these dishcloths.  They are the most wonderful  things because they are made with all cotton yarn and they absorb the water when you are wiping your kitchen counters.  They are also a nice big size for washing dishes!  I have made so many different colors and styles, but this is the pattern that I always come back to.  I use the Sugar  and Cream yarn and I can get two dishcloths out of one skein. Although the with new “twist” Peaches and Cream yarn, I could only get 3 dishcloths out of 2 skeins of yarn, even though they are the same yardage and weight, it is a finer yarn. (They are the red and green ones.)

Valentines Subway Art

Is it too early to put out Valentine decorations?  I know the stores had them out the day before Christmas, but that is just plain crazy!  I know that there are a few of these already out there in blog land but I wanted to create my own version of a Valentines subway art.  It was fun to create and I think that perhaps I shall have to try my hand at this for Easter!

I found this frame at the dollar store and I spray painted it with a Krylon, red gloss paint.  The color really adds to the overall look of this project.

Here is the printable for you to use!  Just right click and go to copy, then open your favorite program like Word, or Presentations and right click again and go to paste.  The original is 8 x 10, but you can re-size it to whatever you would like.  I had mine printed on glossy card  stock and I think it looks great!

I have mine on my kitchen counter and it really brightens up my kitchen on these cold, dreary, winter days and makes me happy! :)   These would be a great little gift for teachers, friends, sisters, SELF etc!

Girl’s Night Out

We had a fun girl’s night out last week.  My husband was gone, so when the cat’s away the mice will play, and play we did!  We hired a baby sitter for all the kids and they had a great time playing downstairs while we were upstairs.  We let them come up for the food after we were all done.  (Nice, I know!)  What a fun group!   And most of  the time the cousins are all great friends.

We made these pillow and I totally copied the idea from a pinterest blog.  I even made the pillows in the back like on their display. She has done a great tutorial on how to make them here so I am not going to do another one.  I will tell you what we did different, as you can see, some of them did the “or” in black paint and just used fine glitter which worked ok, but the glitter had to be sprayed with varnish to help keep the glitter from coming off.  She suggests that you go to Walmart and buy the painter canvas, which I did, but it is not a very high quality and it frays really bad, even after using pinking shears.  So I would suggest that you buy a regular piece of canvas from a fabric store.  The next thing we did different was that we found out the glitter paint did not go very far, so we painted the orange with regular spray paint and then added a glitter finish to the top.  It worked great that way!  But all in all it was fun to see how everyone’s turned out and we had a fun evening together without kids (kind of!) Here’s what mine look like!I don’t know if I can leave them outside or not, I will have to spray scotch gaurd on them if I do so the weather won’t ruin them.!I think they turned out pretty darn cute.
