Star Quilts

I am so happy to announce that it is Christmas in May!?

Star quilts title

I decided right after Christmas last year that I was going to make these two quilts for gifts for this year.  I went out and got the fabric last January and I have slowly been working on them during some of our weekend trips up to our cabin, and they are now finished and I can put them away until Christmas! Strawberry Tablecloth

I have been tending grandkids for 9 straight days and I am totally worn out!  I guess that is why you have your children when you are young, so that you can kind of keep up with them!  :)  They have been really good kids, but I am exhausted.  We went to the park, had picnics, went to our cabin overnight, had our Easter party, went to another Easter party, learned how to do a rainbow loom…made lots of bracelets, went shopping, went to church and I carpooled kids from school!   Oh and we also watched after 3 birds!  I forgot how much time and ENERGY it takes to keep up with little kids!  So my praise goes out to all of you that are raising small children…keep up the great job!

Needless to say, I have not done many projects this last week, but I do have one very simple sewing project for you today:

Block Of the Month Quilt-WIP

This project is a work in progress.

It is my quilt top from the block of the month that I just finished!  This is from the quilt shop, Just Sew, in Highland, Utah.

I love the fun, bright color combinations in the quilt with the white sashings to set it all off!

Little Girl’s Dresses

Do you have any projects that you have had all the supplies for a long time before you got around to making it?  Well these dresses are one of those projects.  I had the pattern for a few months before I bought the fabric and then I had the fabric for several months before I got around to making them.  But I think the wait was well worth it!

Ric Rac Dishtowels

I was planning on doing a post about meeting the Pioneer Woman today, but I am still waiting for one photo…so I am going to post these darling dishtowels instead!  :)

Is anyone out there still working on your goals that you set?  I am still using this book, by Connie Sokol, and I am loving the fact that I set a new goal each week and then I REWARD myself!  It really seems silly that a grown woman needs a reward in order to get her goals accomplished, but guess what?  It is working…so I will keep doing it if it works!  My goal for the week was to clean out two, (yes, I have two) dishtowel drawers!  I purged the old ones and washed and ironed all of my aprons and folded everything neatly.  It looks so good, that sometimes I just open the drawer to look at how wonderful it looks!  Well my reward was that I got to make two new dishtowels.  I had this fabric from our trip last March and I still had not made them up, so I told myself that was going to be my reward…to make these darling dishtowels.

Blanket Purse

I received this for a Christmas present from a dear friend and I loved it so much that I decided that I had better make a couple of them to have on hand for gifts.  (I might even save them for next Christmas!)

It is a blanket that is rolled up and has a pouch with a handle attached to it with velcro!  How cute is this?  My friend filled the pocket full of goodies and said just to keep it in the car!  I can think of a dozen different places that I could use this! Continue reading

Pillowcase Doll Dresses

Well, I don’t know about you, but I had a very productive weekend.  I was able to get all the Christmas put away and I went to town on cleaning my house!  I got my steam cleaner going and I got everything sparkling clean!  Well, at least the main living areas. :)  I am still working on organizing my closet, I have been waiting for a jewelry organizer to come in the mail, and it came on Saturday, so now I can complete that little project! :)

One of the projects that we did during the holidays with a couple of the granddaughter was another “grandma sewing class”.  One of my granddaughter’s kept asking me if  I would do another sewing class, so we decided to do pillowcase doll dresses!  The girls each got a “Fur-Real” monkey friend for Christmas, so we thought it would be fun to make some dresses for each of the dolls.

Star Quilts

I am back from my Christmas break!  I hope that everyone had a great holiday and that you got to do something you loved or be with someone you love!

I mentioned that I was making quilts for Christmas, well we ended up making 5 of them!  I bought a kit last summer and it had the pattern and everything in it for a complete quilt.  It was such an easy pattern that I was able to put the top together in an evening!  There was actually enough fabric in that kit to do the star and the border for a second quilt!  So that is what got me on a roll!   My husband was out of town for about a week and during that week I was able to put 4 of these quilts together and my daughter did the 5th one for her husband for Christmas!

Girl Baptism Quilt

One of our granddaughter’s was baptized this last weekend.  This was a special day for her.  In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints the children are baptized when they are 8 years old.

I have made it a tradition to make a quilt for each of the grandkids for their baptism.  It has always been a minky quilt with minky fabric on the front and the back!  They are so warm and cuddly!  I also have their name and the year and “choose the right” embroidered in one of the corners.
