Father’s Day File Folder Books

If this is my dad or my husband, please do not read this post!

I made these fun file folder books for Father’s Day and so I decided that I would share them with you today.  They are really pretty easy to put together, so if you still need a last minute idea for a gift, you could still make one of these!

Visiting Teaching Handout-June 2013

This month the visiting teaching handout for June is titled “Joy in Family History”.

My husband and I both come from families that have several people that do a lot of family history and a lot of our work has been done, but we went to one of the church’s  family history centers several months ago and one of the really fun things that we did was to generate a family genealogy fan!  This is a great image that will show you all of your ancestors all in the same place.  It shows you who has been found and where there are holes in your lines.  It is really a cool way to see everything all at once!

You do not have to go to a family history center to generate your own fan, anyone can do your own online here:

This is a fun way to get started with your family history, or if you have already done some of your history, this is a great way to see what you have done and where the holes need to be filled in.  I really encourage you to try this and also to encourage your sisters that you visit to try it out.  I would love for you to share this link with them.

So this month, for the visiting teaching message, I thought that it would just be fun to do a tag that says “Scatter Sunshine through Family History”.

File Folder Memory Books

I don’t know if many of you know that I used to own a scrapbook store called “Forget Me Not Scrapbooking Co.”  I closed my shop several years ago and I have not really done much scrapbooking since then.  But then, my children are all married and out of the house, so I don’t have as many events to scrapbook any more!    I love to do my “Smash journal” and I love all scrapbooking products and use them for all kinds of paper crafting projects but just have not done much in the way of scrapbooks.

A couple of weeks ago our local Archiver’s was hosting a Heidi Swapp File folder class and so I decided to take it just for fun!   Boy was that a mistake, (but a good mistake!)  I am hooked on making these little mini books and I love the look of these sweet things!

I made these for gifts and I can hardly wait for an excuse to make more of these!  I have several ideas in mind, including some for Father’s Day, baby books, and they make great birthday gifts or would be perfect for a wedding gift!

Sweet Succulents!

I am getting anxious to start working in my garden but it is still too early to plant most things.

I  planted some some butter crunch lettuce which is one of my favorite things, but that is about it for now,  so I decided that I would plant some beautiful succulents!  These are great to plant, because they do not take very much maintenance!  You only have to water them every once in awhile when the soil dries out!  I don’t have very many houseplants, because I don’t  take good enough care of them!   But these are easy and they are so beautiful!  These plants make great gifts, because the person receiving the gift does not have very much maintenance to keep them looking beautiful!

Easy to Sew Zippered Pouches!

Yesterday we had another one of our sewing classes for Relief Society in my church.  I taught them how to put in a zipper and we made these fun zippered pouches!

DSC_0289

These are so fun to make and they are a great project to learn how to put a zipper in!   This is a beginning sewing class so all of the projects are simple to make.  There are a lot of pictures in this tutorial, but do not let that discourage you.  These are literally a 15-20 minute project once you have made one and know how to do them! Grandma and Grandpa Dates

Part of our granddaughter’s Christmas gift was to have a date with Grandma and go to the beauty salon! So last week we went to a local beauty school and each of the girls got their hair done and their fingernails painted!

It was so much fun and the girls loved it!

I think that we might even have to do it again sometime! :)

Look at how darling that hair is!  Each one of them turned out sooo cute!

What a Week!

This has been a busy week here at the ranch.  Even though we are empty nesters it does not mean that we slow down very much!

My husband and I took a quick little trip to St. George, (Southern Utah)  the first few days of the week.  We went to two of the Tuacahn Theater Shows,   “Aladdin” and “Hairspray”.  They were both so good and the weather was pretty good although the first night we were there the wind came up and it got downright cold!  We figured if we were going to see these shows that we had better go now, because they are going to end this week!  We really enjoy going to the different shows every year!  Thriller starts next week and I would love to see that one too, but I doubt that we will make it back down there to see that one!  Maybe next year!

Painted Mason Jars

When I did the visiting teaching handout for this month I pictured it with a painted mason jar.  These are so easy to make and all you need is a bottle and some spray paint and of course some cute ribbon!  These are perfect for a vase for flowers from your garden or a bunch from the grocery store. I just went outside in my yard and picked these Shasta Daisies, I had the jars, ribbon and paint so this project cost me nothing out of pocket to make.  Bonus! Continue reading

Organizer Gift Boxes

Here is a really cute, fun, simple little gift idea!

It is great for teacher appreciation, a thank you gift for someone, just thinking about you, or heck, it would be great to just make one for yourself! :)

Remember the chocolate morsels that we wrapped here.  Well this is another fun way to use those sweet babies.
